Hey all
Right now I can't exactly access a TV for sabres game so I was stuck listening to rickster online. I checked out the gamesheet and noticed Myers with 24:50 of icetime. How freakin unreal is that? Was it well deserved time or just evaluation time?

Either way, I'm really getting excited for him

Tough to say - He definitely seems to have earned it.

He played a very sound game. But Sekera went out with "an upper-body injury" - And that cleared the way (or compelled Lindy) to allow Myers to pick up the slack...

...He didn't miss a beat. He's getting better every game.

Oh, just like Vanek, right??

Seriously, how does our star in Vanek get 16 min a game and a 19 year old gets almost 25 minutes??

Also, if Myers can play 25 minutes in his 3rd NHL game of his life(at 19 years old), imagine how much time is he gonna get in his 5th NHL season.. Not only is this kid going to be one of the best NHL defensemen in the future, he's gonna be on the ice for us for half of each game!!!

There's also the possibility that Lindy is using the "injury" to keep Sekera off the ice. He played somewhat poorly and may have been genuinely shaken up, but my overriding feeling was that he didn't need to be on the ice.

Myers' poise, his confidence with the puck in tight defensive situations, his ability to take away the puck in the defensive zone, his ability to clear the slot and the paint, his ability to eat up large chunks of ice carrying the puck on the offensive, his ability to eat up large chunks of time and deny the opposition any space are all very, very, very comforting.

His confidence translates to the rest of the team, and the fans as well.

He's not "amazing" yet - But, he damn well will be, pretty soon.

...and we're only three games in...

First of all, defensemen in general get much more time on the ice than forwards because every team only has 3 defensive pairings and 4 offensive lines.

In addition, Myers plays on both the penalty kill and the power play.

Sekera got hurt, opening up even more ice time, and Myers was awarded with it.

Last but not least, Ruff is running all 4 lines using quick shifts so that we can be as fast as possible all game long, and it pays dividends.

Ruff doesn't play rookies for 25 minutes unless they're good.

Good insight.

Any news on Sekera's injury?

This, from WKBW.com:

"However it looks like the Sabres will return to host Detroit on Tuesday without defenseman Andrej Sekera on the ice. He left the game with an upper body injury. Following the contest Buffalo head coach Lindy Ruff called Sekera's injury serious and that he could miss a period of time."

And that (as they say) is that...

His "serious upper-body injury" could well be a lack of heart, or a lack of brains...

Either way, he sits.

With the way Myers has generated offense, who needs an offensive defenseman like Sekera?

Sit him for Loods, and keep Tallinder, who hasn't looked terrible, in the lineup.

I've been saying that since before the season started.

Dude is GOOD. I love watching him out there. Still can't believe he's only 19!

Great minds do think alike, PSP :D

When people compare Myers to Chara, they talk about size or reach. But when I compare Myers to Chara, I'm referring to strength on the puck and offensive talent.
