I was just floating around the AHL website, and to my astonishment, I saw that Marc Mancari is the 2nd leading scorer in the entire league!

44GP 27G 26A 53P which in an 80 game season would work out to 80GP 49G 47A 96P

I know he's been inconsistent at best with his (incredibley limited) time in Buffalo, but I'd like to see what he could do over a 20 game stretch. I mean, look how much time Gerbe's had this year, and only now is he coming around.

I don't think we've ever given him more than 2 or 3 games at a time to acclimate himself the NHL game.

Therefore, I say throw Neidermayer on waivers and call up Mancari for the rest of the year and once and for all see what he can do over a 20-30 game period. If he sucks, then we know he's a career AHL'er. If he performs, then we have another gem in the rough.

But I think we can all agree that he'd be a better option than Neids at this point, no?

Nieds hasn't scored a goal yet this year. Can't hurt.

I don't know why people hate Mancari. I like him.

its not that I hate him. I think hes a good player. but hes a great AHLer. and hes never been able to do what he does in the minors in buffalo. and he has had plenty of chances at this point.

He needs to shoot the puck while he's here.

Guy's got a 100 MPH slap shot, and I don't think I've seen him use it in any of his call ups.

I'd love to give him a 20 game tryout, to see what he can do.

While I don't think Mancari is any worse than Nieds, this is why it won't happen.

Nieds NHL, Mancari AHL :

Nieds $1.125M
Mancari $105k

Total : $1.225M

Nieds waived/AHL , Mancari NHL :

Nieds : $1.125M
Mancari $575k

Total : $1.7M

They're not going to pay Nieds over $1M to play out the string in the AHL, AND pay Mancari more money to not produce up here.

He's had plenty of tryouts. He hasn't been able to break the lineup in training camp. He HELD OUT for a contract and blew another chance.

The guy is a career AHLer. That's it.

He should try skating half as hard as Gerbe maybe then he'll get a 20 game stint.

I feel Mancari would out produce Nieds for sure. Being on the cusp of the playoffs, the management should consider the risk/reward of playing Mark over Nieds. If they spend the .5 it would cost them, would the chance at playoff revenue be worth it? I think so, because it also gives you one more look at Mark, and we already know Needs has zero potential. Last 2 years, Mancari 1-2:3, +2 over 9 games; 25 shots. Needs 0-1:1, -3 over 40 games; 45 shots.

If you're gonna do what's best for the team(keyword, note I didn't say Golly's pocket), then it looks like you go with Mancari.

Unrelated, but DR should have known Needs was probably finished after Uncle Lou played the shit out of him last year. He used him up, basically. This was always a concern of mine, because I'm not one of those people who say, "see Darcy signs guys". It's the quality of the signing that concerns me. Needs would not have out produced Mancari on this roster any of the last 3 years. His last year of real production was 2005-06. Ok, you can continue hating on Mancari now, but Needs should be getting more hate than Mark gets. Just sayin

What's the longest streak of games in a row he's played in the NHL? You cannot expect a player to constantly get 2 or 3 games to show his stuff and then send them down when they don't produce. Why has Gerbe gotten so many chances this year? Sure he hustles, but he hasn't been producing until recently - after 40+ games. Darcy talked about seeing what the young guys could do. I hope that includes Mancari.

Mancari had a shot to make the team in camp. Again. Gerbe beat him out. If Mancari was better, he would have been on the team.

There's this false assumption that players make the NHL by performing well on callups. That's the exception, not the rule.

Mancari was drafted in 2004. He's had 5 full seasons in the AHL, and because of the lockout, 4 training camps to make the Sabres. Based on my memory alone, he hasn't made final cuts a single year. Not once.

You don't get called up to the big show because it's your turn. You get called up because you bust your ass to show that you belong. Mancari has not done it.

I was always under the impression that you got called up because you were the best available option on the farm club. Mancari has done that. Needs hasn't done a fucking thing for the team all year.

Sorry. Nobody here can know for sure what he will do if he's called up for 20 games. Calling him a career AHLer for sure is meh.

I'd love to see the PPG mancari, but I'd be happy with a guy getting 30-35 points while throwing his body around, which if I remember correctly, he doesn't do.

I don't dispute that that Mancari would be an upgrade over Nieds at this point. Hell, I think that if Lindy Ruff put skates back on he'd be a better option than Nieds right now. What I do dispute is this constant refrain that that Mancari has never had a chance to make the NHL on a full time basis. That's just not true.

He's had plenty of chances. He hasn't capitalized.

I'd like to see Gretzky Jr. (thats Patrick O'Sullivan for those in the dark) brought in to center Mancari on the RW with Gerbe on the LW.

Put Kaleta back on RW with Goose and McCormick.

(Thought you might enjoy the fantasy "throw a dart at the board" line creation Squanto :))
After all, it's the way Regier appears to be doing it. ;)

At this point... Neids and Grier (spelling?) are both hurting the club... we can absorb one older vet not producing, but we can't absorb both... just how i see it... Neids has NOT scored in 50+ maybe 60 games... either waive or Rivet him... and give Mancari an extended look...

And as much as I hate to say it... its time for Timmy to take a long seat or a bus ride out... he won't be around after this year, get a bag of pucks for him while you can... and I don't care if you add Byron or Adam... either have shown more in there short time up than Timmy has all year...

Add Mancari and either Byron or Adam.... Sit or waive Neids .... sit or trade Timmy.... can you make the lines work with that....

I don't mind the guy I think people get on this guy too much because he's a big body and doesn't use it to his advantage but the guy is a solid passer and has a blast. I don't mind giving the guy like 20-30 games in a row and see what he does. Many players just can't step in and produce right away.
