I know some of you who are on Twitter has probably already heard the interview, but The Buffalo News posted the audio (around 43 minutes long) of their executive board meeting with Pegula, and it's pretty interesting stuff. Definitely worth the listen. You can listen to it here:

There was some stuff I didn't like from both sides, but overall I really liked that it took place and that the things I didn't like were said anyways. If that makes sense.

Pegula's attitude is more important to Buffalo than his capital. I hope his attitude helps the fans and media rally around these players.

I'm a big believer in positive reinforcement and belief in the people you've got.

I loved it when he asked what the problem is with Darcy, fucking awesome.

The weird thing though...Pegula reminds me EX-ACT-LY of Craig Patrick. From the teary eyed emotion to the attitude, they could be identical twins.

I sincerely hope that Regier keeps his job for the long term, but it is scary how much Pegula and Patrick are alike.

Listening to it now! Very interesting I like the guy for believing in his players but he needs to realize that players need to perform on the ice and if they can't then GM Regier needs to do his job and make changes. I don't blame Buffalo News to get on Pegula about Regier. I just don't know if Darcy is the right guy for this job. You need a GM that's gonna make the necessary moves, analyze the players and build this team for the long haul. He had plenty of years to do this. Were his hands tied who really knows. When you have teams like Toronto, Boston and Montreal in the division and all are making moves to try to improve and Buffalo sits and does nothing then you have to do something. You can't blame the fans or the media.

Yeah it's fine he called out the Buffalo news but you have to realize the media is like this everywhere. Buffalo is a big hockey town but not as big like Montreal or Toronto but the Media plays a big role of players or the team. If the players can't take it or the GM can't take it then maybe they are in the wrong profession. Players are paid to play the best that they can and the GM is paid to analyze these players and make the necessary changes.

I think I've always had an issue with sports media, the general smugness that goes on. Not just specifically The Buffalo News. They definitely can dish it out but can't take it. They are professionals too, and if a player/coach/fan/whatever wants to criticize them and their reporting, then they need to learn how to handle. I've noticed that people in the media don't seem to handle it that well.

Well if the goal is to win the Stanley Cup within the next 3 years and if your plan on any deals for no rental players or only players that you can build for the future then Connolly, Hecht, Niedermayer, Grier and a couple of others need to go and you get what you can for them. But hey that's just me!

See. this is a part of the uncanny Craig Patrick comparison that I mentioned. CP got flat out ANRGY on live TV with a Penguin fan when he suggested that they were not good enough. And when the Pens were down 3-1 to the Caps in the playoffs he guaranteed a playoff round win despite many fans giving up on them.

I LOVED that Craig Patrick just like I want to love Mr. Pegula. CP cried when he was forced to trade Kasparitus and Kovalev, he's the real deal. I sense that same sincerity in Pegula.

Hey you can't believe everything you hear in the media but you are talking about players making millions of dollars for doing a job. So hey I don't blame the media for getting on them. I like the fact that Pegula said something about Tallinder and Lydman if they were still on the team that they would have 10 more wins. That he said Tom had Darcy's hands tied. That's interesting.

I'm not saying the media can't "get on" the players. I understand that's part of their job and it's part of the players' job to answer to the media. What I dislike is the lack of respect and the smugness that is usually involved.

That might have something to do with Regier being too nice of a guy.

I'm not just referring to the Sabres and the Buffalo media though.

A perfect example was the Sullivan - Miller spat. The media should know better than to ask stupid questions that they know will provoke an emotional response just so they can print "Ryan Miller Locker Room Meltdown."

What I hate about print media is when they take the stance of being something anywhere near close to an expert on the players or play that they criticize. TBN's group of sports writers haven't played a down of serious football or had one important shift on the ice in their whole miserable lives. Yet, they choose to make overwhelming conclusions about players and the team based on short stretches of games or simply their own bloated, biased opinions.

They sniveled back at Pegula, saying Montreal or Toronto would be much more critical. First, some of those writers have actually grown up with hockey and played it and second, their over-opinionated pieces aren't necessarily worth a crap either. If there are educated, analytical articles to read (good or bad) then fine, but for the most part the slop printed in TBN is Gleason style op-ed that wouldn't hold up in my circle of friends, let alone a legit hockey discussion with hockey players, coaches, or front office personnel.

But basically, Pegula is a positive oriented person and he wants to bring that atmosphere to the locker room and ice. TBN, like most print media, is filled with non-athletes that don't know how to attract readership without negative junk they think is true just because they stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night. That attitude won't be welcome in HSBC.
