I just got done watching The Buffalo News video with Vogl, Harrington, and jackass discussing the Sabres off-season needs. I don't know why I bother, but I did and now I must cleanse myself with a new topic to slam them.

They said what we all know, that they need a top center and an impact d-man. However, it was actually Harrington that went so far as to say that Derek Roy would be a 3rd center on any Cup contending team. Therefore, Buffalo needs two top centers so that Roy can go back to where he should be - a 3rd line center.

I don't even need to take a glance at team stats pages to know that there aren't any 3rd line centers with 70+ pts a year. If there ever were (and I'm sure it's happened) that team was pretty lucky for a season, but it doesn't mean they also won the Cup.

Anyway, stats don't matter. The bigger point is that it's borderline retarded to think we need to find two centers better than Roy in order to put him down to 3rd line. Roy could be a #1 on many teams, but ideally would be a #2 for a Cup team with a very good offense. I suppose now that Connolly is probably gone, the TBN goons are already trying to make Roy their 1st line whipping boy. Great job losers.

Roy is a second line center on any team besides Pittsburgh. To suggest he'd be a 3rd line center on a contending team is to diminish his value to absurd depth.

Pfft, what a moron, he's a 2nd line center at worst no matter what. Well, unless he's on Pittsburgh.

Roy isn't a third line center. End of discussion.

They're thinking teams just roll out three scoring lines like in 06-07, when Roy was a "third-line center".

He's between a 2nd and 3rd line guy, IMO. The thing is, we tend to overvalue our guys. I also don't think Roy should have played the last game, either.

Roys stats have proved he is a second to first line center in this league.

What a stupid thing to say. Oh well, it's not like he's an expert or anything. He's just a journalist.

There are plenty of 2nd line center Roy is better than. 70 points is great for even a 1ST line center.

If Connolly was healthy that season, the Sabres' top 4 centers would have been Briere/Connolly/Drury/Roy. Yikes.

yeah but connolly and roy would be wasted if used with...mair and peters.

ps, don't forget goose.

i think you would have seen roy on dru's wing. dru was too good defensively and on the draw to line up on the wing, but in the offensive zone he plays like a wing. i think that's why roy-dru-grier was one of the best overall lines in sabres history. pure complementation of each other's abilities.

Yeah, that line was ridiculous. Roy and Grier on 2-on-1's were awesome.

Speaking of Drury, they were talking tonight on HNiC as to what the Rags do with him, and if they would go the way of the Redden and burry him in the minors. Word flying around is he'll be bought out this summer.

Yeah, his NMC means if they want to get rid of him, they have to buy him out. And that is one HEFTY buy out.

if tortorella ever used him properly, he'd have better stats and stuff. i don't know how you bury your captain in the minors, especially when teammates think so highly of him. i guess we did a similar thing to rivet, now that i think about it
