I understand that, and never said otherwise.

My point is that there's no chance Kassian is in the lineup at all for this upcoming season.

Although this may be right, I think it due more to our logjam on the wings than it is Kassian not being ready or able to play in the NHL.

I don't think so. It has more to do with Kassian missing curfew and getting into a bar fight. Darcy isn't going to sign a guy who's going to be a problem. He wants Kassian to prove to the Sabres that these were isolated incidents and not a pattern.

I doubt Darcy will make any more moves until after the season starts or right before during training camp.

This is what caught my eye. We need perfectionists on defense. Loods is gone, yet Monty remains???? One gave it away as often as the other and Hank was shaky at times too, but I attributed that to Myers making him look bad mostly. Maybe Leopold will be smart with the puck, yet I don't see how Weber fits this mold. Weber was giving it away worse than Loods and Monty combined last stint. As someone said before, we APPEARED to get worse last off-season, but we were actually way better. We'll see.

Monty was signed to a two year deal though, there is a reason he is still here. His contract wasn't up.

We could always sign Nolan Pratt.

They should sign him, but whenever he shows up for practice they should hide his skates. Or pull away in the team bus laughing loudly as he puts his head down and gently sobs to himself.

Lol, I used to get in so many verbal beatings with people over that guy. He was serviceable, but definitely not someone you should play more than 12-14 mins a night.

It's good you thought that, because he only played 13:31 a night (avg of course) ;)

yeah, I was too lazy to look it up, but knew it was in that range. He's a 7th defensiveman who came in nice when we had to shut Teppo down that year

Oh, I know, but if a guy is costing you games, you don't have to play him(not saying Monty was either). There had to have been an opportunity to move him. I think management believes in him(for intangible reasons).

On a side note, I'm sure Monty probably could have been had on a 1 year deal, which would have been smarter, imo.

The only game where he accidentally cost us the game was the Carolina game where he fell behind the net, that is the only one I remember he cost us. Most other games he was unnoticeable with his play.

He played very solid, and it wasn't until right before the Olympic break did the team suck, and after it they were fine again.

That's complete and utter hindsight man.

What if Montador had a 25 point season, and was a +30, and played 26 mins a night? Then his two year deal would be looking like a bargain at 1.5M.

The Montador pick up, and signing was a great deal, and he really was only bad for a stretch of about 15 games last year, the rest of the year he was a rock. He's not an elite defender by any stretch of the imagination, but playing 3rd pairing minutes, the guy gets the job done.

And he stepped it up with Lydman in the playoffs and was a +3 with almost 24 minutes TOI, too.

I don't get the Monty criticism. He was signed to bring in some reliable defense and some grit and toughness. He delivered in all areas plus added a nice point shot on occassion for all of 1.550 mil a season. Sounds fair to me. Not bashing Tallinder or Lydman, but tell me what those two did so much better than Montador to be paid 3+ mil per??

I'm ok with Monty getting 3rd line minutes as long as I have faith in his partner. I didn't have faith in Lydman, and I think them two together were mostly a disaster. As for the signing, I don't think any teams were beating his door down, and that's why I think he could have been had for 1 year, then re-signed if he had a solid year. If he had of had a spectacular season it would have shocked the entire hockey world.

YYYYYYYYYEP. Their collective +10 rating spells disaster to me. (Lydman was a +10, to be fair, but still....I'm not sure where you think your point is AT ALL VALID).

Sorry bro, I watch the games, not just spit the stats. Your forgetting we had a good team. Put those 2 on a bad club, and that +10 becomes what???
