Boyes still isn't like Connolly, no matter how he's under performed lately. Boyes has hardly missed a game in his entire career, is bigger and has the scoring talent - pure shooting skill - that Connolly doesn't.

Plus he's now just around the corner from home in Mississauga...maybe that will help.

That means exactly nothing. Every time a player is moved, fans of the former team crap on the player and say good riddance. Use your own reasoning to decide if a move was good or not.

I already did. Boyes is making 4M+ per year as a marginally effective offensive player. The same as Connolly. For that kind of money, I believe this team needs a solid upgrade at center and/or defense, not a light scoring wing.

To me, the fact that the St. Louis fans and media have been saying the same things about Boyes as our fans and media have been saying about Connolly supports the notion that there's nothing really special about this guy.

Boyes - 6'0, 195
TC - 6'1, 191

Boyes is bigger?

TC has always been more of a set-up guy, never a big goal scorer. That doesn't make him less talented. This team is in need of a playmaker just as much as a goal scorer, IMO. It depends on what the team asks of you and what your primary talents are.

Boyes is listed on NHL.com as 204 and Timmy at 190.

TSN has him at 200 lbs, ESPN has him 204, Yahoo has him at 195. He's a little bigger, but he'll probably play much bigger since Connolly has played light since all his various injuries. Not the biggest impact move, but the team is better with him than without. Let's wait until the end of the day to form conclusions.

Pat Kaleta - 6'1" 206

Just because Boyes and Connolly are the same size doesn't mean they have the same physicality.

Boyes plays a lot tougher than Timmy.

Boyes will punch a bitch. Rocked Lydman pretty good a few years ago. Thought I'd throw that out there.

Boyes got shifted down STL's depth chart behind guys like Backes, Perron, Oshie, etc, so his ice time decreased and he had to play left wing while he's a right wing, so his production has suffered. I like this trade a lot, we only gave up a pick and got a 28-year old proven scorer on the wing. Good deal, Darcy.

Since the lockout:

Boyes - 0.71 PPG, -13.

With the likely imminent departure of Connolly, can someone please explain to me how this is such a solid pickup for the Sabres? At virtually the same salary, this is not an impact move.

Nobody really knows what kind of production TC would put up over the course of an entire 82 game season. It's reasonable to suggest that the grind of an entire season would lower his average production significantly. He has shown in the past to be a good "sprinter" but he never finishes the race, so to speak.

You know what the worst case scenario will be with Boyes, and that's around 20 goals, 50 points, and better all around play without the puck. Don't let the +/- fool you, lots of players have a much lower +/- than Connolly since the lockout, and they would hand TC his lunch only after eating the contents of the lunchbox and replacing it with poop.

They got a better player for the same amount of money, except that this player will actually be in the line up to earn that salary and his top end potential is leagues above Connolly's, IMO.

Ruff has told TBN that Boyes will play RW with Connolly.

Are we shipping Grier or another RW in addition to getting rid of Connolly?

I rather have a tough scoring line than a wussy line with Connolly. Having a wuss makes your line a wussy line.

Any NTC allows a player to give permission for a trade and to list eight teams he will not accept a trade to.
