I wonder if Darcy feels that TK won't get picked up and he can re-negotiate with Roy on a new deal. Or will Roy tell Darcy to go fuck himself and Kennedy will go UFA?

Why would Kennedy and his agent want to re-negotiate? He just got awarded $1 million from an aribitrator, so it's not like they are going to accept anything less.

Because if TK isn't picked up, Darcy can say that no team in the league will sign Kennedy for that salary.

For a 200k difference? Why go that distance for 200k?

I don't know, the way I see it, waving and buying him out only does one good thing. It relieves a bit of cap space for this season. You still have to pay him the money, and a small portion of that counts against the cap for both this year and next year. So you're not saving money buying him out, only cap space. Problem is, Buffalo does not have any cap issues for this season. And while that small penalty for next season isn't a big deal, it's still a liability in exchange for cap relief this season, which Buffalo doesn't need.

So for this to be logical, they must be planning on bringing someone in that would bump them up against the cap or put them uncomfortably close. The only other reasons I can see would be some sort of irreconcileable differences.

Unless Darcy is banking on someone picking Timmy up off waivers. Then they'd only pay half his salary. So that would save a little coin. But I don't see Darcy making a move like this gambling that he gets picked up. Gambling is not Darcy's M.O. The other idea, I suppose, is that he's gambling that nobody claims him so he can be sent down to Portland.

Really has me stumped, so I guess I'll wait for the statement tomorrow.

Ham

There is no way that some team out there does not pick up a young, decently skilled 3rd liner with upside who scored 10 goals in his rookie season in an obviously defensive role most of the season. Hes no star but with the right players and a few years, Kennedy is a 20 goal 45 point guy almost certainly. Securing those services for a mil.....not a bad idea.

This move just has Quinn's stink all over it. I hope Regier throws him or Goli under the bus if it really was one of their doing.

Kinda like what happened with Pominville a few years ago.

Darcy: Kennedy failed the Sabres initiation test, although we couldn't get rid of him last year, we have to do it this year. He couldn't chug 5 beers, spin around, and clench an apple in his ass cheeks and crouch down the stairs. He failed at the stairs part.

Wonder if Briere and Drury are thinking the same thing?

At first, I was thinking the same thing. Then with the Morrisonn signing today and the possible trades/signings which may (or may not) follow, I think it maybe more of a case of the pieces actually faling into place. We all remember after the Kennedy signing that Darcy said that it was looking like he was going to start filling holes for Portland this season as our roster looked pretty much set heading into camp. Then, as Phil pointed out in his blog, this deal today comes from far out in deep DEEP left field, IDK, to me at this time it seems like things are just opening up as they needed to for Darcy to make some moves to better the club. And building from the back end out, is never a bad idea. IMO, we've gotten better on the blue line with the Leopold/Morrisonn signings.

None the less, he's making moves to change the way the roster looks. The guy plays his cards close to his chest and trust me, I've never been a big supporter of his, but I have a feeling the guy still has something up his sleeve. We just have to wait & see...

Kennedy quotes from TBN:
Quote:
"It hurts," Kennedy said. "This is not what I envisioned for the last month of the summer before the season started. It's tough. I hope this isn't the end, but it doesn't look too good right now. You grow up watching this team your whole life. I don't even know what to say right now because I'm so shocked."

Quote:
"I'm kind of just nervously awaiting a call of any kind," Kennedy said. "This is not the start to the week that I thought I would have. ... In the short time I've played with the team and been in the league, I've learned that it's all business."

Quote:
"I expected maybe them telling me that because of the award the arbitrator gave me that more would be expected of me. I did not expect that," Kennedy said. "I wish I could tell you more, but I really don't know what to say right now. It totally blindsided me."

Quote:
"I keep trying to tell myself that this whole thing is real, and it's not just some rumor, but that it's actually happening," Kennedy said. "I'm having a hard time grasping that fact right now."

Holy shit, I feel for Kennedy right now.
