Sylvesters Blog about Myers

If he stays (my opinion to come later), then he becomes a restricted free agent at age 22, an unrestricted free agent at age 25. The question you have to ask and project is this, “would you rather have Tyler Myers at age 19 or age 26?”

Interesting question. I would like to see him on the team for the full season. Live for the moment 8-)

I dont understand the question. Why not have him at 19 and then sign him long term when the time comes. Let's see he'll be 21 in the final year of his ETC. What about a 9 year deal worth 54 mill. 6 mill a year cap hit. But it could be broken down like 4, 4, 6, 6, 8, 8, 6, 6, 6. Either way I dont think we'll have a problem resigning this guy when the time comes. Especially if the fans treat him the way he has been treated so far. A couple buddies of mine were in Myers' grad class at my old high school. They said he loves Buffalo and the organization. Also Myers is probably watching his buddy Schenn go through rough times in the biggest hockey market. He's probably much happier being in a hockey crazy market like Buffalo but without the spotlight that comes with being a Maple Leaf.

If I could extend him right now for 9 years $6 mill per, Id do it in a second.. I have a hard time imagining he would get that little $ per year.. I know it may be a lil premature but I love the little and big things that this kid does and Im confient that he's going to become a star in the future.. I was thinking we might be able to sign him at $8 mill a year..

Myers has been announced as making the team. Saw the article on NHL.com.

Okay, so now we're on the lookout for a REAL number for the guy. I too am sick to death of these high-end numbers.
I'm old, so the last guy I remember wearing #3 was Jocelyn Guevremont (sp?) and I thought he was awful. LOL

well it appears decision time is fast approaching. i would think another trade may be in order as sekera is projected to return this weekend. and lydman to heal eventually. i highly doubt butler will get sent back down. they could potentially put lydman on IR and hide him in the AHL call it recooperating. something like what the flyers did to briere. i don't know the exacts. but none the less, decision time is close.

There's nothing to decide, the team is carrying 13 forwards, 8 d-men, and 2 goalies for a full 23 man roster.

Vanek - Roy - Stafford
MacArthur - Connolly - Pominville
Hecht - Kennedy - Grier
Ellis - Gaustad - Kaleta
Mair

Butler - Rivet
Tallinder - Myers
Lydman - Montador
Paetsch, Sekera

Miller, Lalime

Well we knew he wouldn't play like an all-star every single game of his career..

He made mistakes tonight(like every d-man every game), but there were also many times where he made some really great plays..

He had a shot block that saved us a goal against. It was a beauty.

Then he sucked out all the karma from that by committing a penalty hah

He sees the game in more detail than do many players. Mind you, he has a bird's eye view. I meant that as a joke, but it may in fact be factual!

Heh, it just may be!

Tonight was an expected growing pain, to be sure. We need to all remember he's still 19 lol

Oh no; he wasn't great tonight, but he was calmer than many of his older team mates, to be sure.....

Click on the video that says "Too young for NHL"(and has a pic of Myers)..

They talk about teams not sending the 18/19 year olds down.. They give Myers high praise(not surprisingly).. The one guy says that he talked to Scotty Bowman that saw Myers play in Tampa Bay.. Scotty, a future HOF coach, says that Tyler is the best skating big guy that he has ever seen in his career..

Well He had a bad giveaway tonight for a goal.

He can't play like a superstar every game this year.

I'm going to say this: "He needs to forget the other players and their slack habits. He needs to play his own game and unlearn all the "cute" shortcuts.

We don't need another Shakira. We need a Hockey player. No fucking around.

Simple. I've always said that some players' bad habits "poison"the impressionable.

That's why Roy and Pommers are so fucked - For all their talent, they learned Max's and Connolly's bullshit methodology and mind-set. As did Stafford.

And Lindy does nothing to openly discourage it.

It's a crap idea, that has kids thinking you don't have to work hard, to win. You just have to be "slick".

Anyone else notice that he had played like crap since they said they were keeping him? I know its expected to see growing pains but he played his worst games against the islanders and leafs

Teams are starting to scout him and watch tape of him.

It was to be expected he would be playing tougher matchups and teams will be gunning for him harder.

Yeah, he's starting to make alot of noise now.
His pairing is basically getting either the toughest or 2nd toughest matchups now (depending on who Butler/Rivet plays against). Totally going to be growing pains... anyone remember how long it took Chara to really come into his own and be the dominant force he is? Lets just say Myers actually looks better at this point in his career than Chara did (at least skating and offense wise)
