Can't, would need to wait one more year. This is the start of his three-year entry-level contract.

Next year, then!

Actually I can't do math, we need to wait until the end of 2010-2011 season to sign him.

So in 2011 we can sign him til forever.

Tyler Tall hasn't played less than 23 minutes in his last five games, and was on the ice with Hank the Tank for most of Ovechkin, Semin, and Backstrom's shifts last night.

25:47 TOI last night! Holy shit!!

Myers is :18 off of taking over Hedman's spot as rookie defenseman TOI leader. His short-lived penchant for heinous turnovers at the blue line seems to be over, and he and Tallinder's growing chemistry from NEVER, EVER PLAYING APART is turning their time with the other three Sabres on ice into a dangerous rushing machine.

I think it's very safe to say that the Sabres have a real #1 pair. The veteran on a comeback tear and the hyped rookie who's showing the goods are truly a potent combination.

It's all because of Myers incredible play which has really inspired Hank to play again.

Tallinder has to be thanking him alot for what he has done to his game. And when OV went around Myers in the first Caps game, I saw OV try to do a nifty move to get around Myers again in the third and Myers just bodychecked him instead of only trying to use his stick like the last time.

He is probably the quickest learners on our team and in the league. Not letting OV dismantle you and taking the body with him.

Tallinder hooking up with Myers was like winning the lottery...He's going to get millions more in contract money because Lydman pulled his wanky and lost his golden pairing at the start of the year.

Lydman, meanwhile, suffered one expensive pulled crotch.

Wasn't Tallinder going to play with Myers whether or not Lydman was healthy or not? Thought the only pairing from last year to remain was the Rivet/Butler pair and Lydman was going to play with Montador since they had chemistry before in Calgary?

I remember reading that the Tallinder/Lydman pair was gone this year.

Well, Loods was injured early and when he came back he played with Montador because they were partners in Calgary in 2003/2004. But yea, I do remember reading something about how Rivet/Butler was the only pair to remain intact.

Hank had a dismal preseason, and was to be the odd man out until Loods pulled his crotch. Here were the expected pairings going into the opener:

Rivet/Butler
Sekera/Montador
Loods/Myers

Who did Hank play with in the preseason?

What ETC said. However, and even though I'm a huge Loods fan, I'm really fucking glad he tweaked his groin something fierce. Otherwise, who knows how Myers would be doing right now?

Myers would be a star if he were paired with ETC. Hank is along for the ride...but with that ride comes improved confidence and more ice space as everyone focuses on Myers.

If it were Loods we'd be praising him effusively for bringing the rookie along so nicely, and playing brilliant hockey.

I don't think so, or at least not to this degree. Myers would have much less confidence from having to deal with all the goals scored on his watch that could be credited to Loods' hand grenades.

Then again, you've got a helluva point about us praising him for playing brilliant hockey, as I believe that Myers just makes his partner better, which is huge for a kiddo.

Hank's game was revitalized from Myers without a doubt, his confidence is back, he is hitting people, and he is playing defense like he was in 05-06.

I'm sure Tallinder thanks Myers everyday for his resurgence.

Loods has 22 hits in 14 games. Tallinder has 19 hits in 28 games. I suspect Myers would benefit greatly from the extra room that extra muscle provided. Not knocking Hank, mind you, just praising Myers.

What does a TSN panel think of the rookie race?

Question #2: Who would you choose to build your team around: John Tavares or Tyler Myers?

MacTavish: Tyler Myers, especially with his skill set. The size and the effortlessness of which he skates; he skates like a man that's 5'8 and yet he's 6'7. I've never seen a guy that can cover as much ice as Myers can.

McKenzie: I would say John Tavares. He has 13 goals in 30 games and he's going to light it up offensively - and he's going to sell tickets. Before it's all said and done, this is going to be a guy who's going to score a ridiculous number of goals. He beat Wayne Gretzky's mark for goal scoring as a 16 year old, scored 72 goals for the Oshawa Generals while Gretzky scored 70 for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Ferraro: Everybody's looking for a defenceman, so I would take Tyler Myers. Not only for his size and his skill, but I think we're just scratching the surface as to how good he's going to be.

I found this article while browsing earlier. This kid seems to be popping up everywhere.

Quote:
Headed into the 2009 World Junior Championship, Tyler Myers wasn’t a household name. But during the tournament the American-born defender established himself as a premier NHL prospect while helping Canada capture their fifth straight gold medal.

At 6-foot-7, Myers is the second-tallest player in the league behind Boston goliath Zdeno Chara and he brings a much-needed physical presence to the Buffalo blueline. His ability to bully opponents in front of the net and in the corners was expected due to his size, but his offense prowess was a pleasant surprise for the Sabres organization.

In his first season with the club, Myers is relied upon in all situations and leads the team in average ice time. In 26 games this season he has 12 assists and is plus 5. Ken Campbell takes a closer look at the Sabres rookie phenom.

I almost don't want him to receive accolades... Would prefer to keep him on the team for a few years after he's eligible for UFA, thanks...

An what makes you think he would bolt when he becomes a UFA? You don't give up a guy this good at that time, plus we still have 7 years until he becomes eligible for UFA.
