I doubt people take the Sabres lightly this year, especially having Miller and Myers being the best rookie defender out there.

This team is noticed, just not as much as other teams because we do not have the star players others have, we basically only have Miller and Myers.

And Yes Myers is already a star he is the most talked about Sabre other than Miller, and will be elite like Miller.

A lot of fans around the league think that the Sabres suck outside of Ryan Miller. I don't think many people are taking them too seriously, everyone is mostly focused on Miller's success, rather than the team's as a whole.

And, fairly so. miller isnt having a normal year. this is an anomaly. the team as a whole, has to pick it up in the second half. and miller cant afford to miss a beat.

When that comparison was made last year, I scoffed and scoffed and scoffed some more. They were not even in the playoffs when those whispers started, and I thought there was a tad too much audacity in them for them to be taken seriously at all.

I don't mind it now.

I was one of those bold few to begin seeing the transformation. You can all eat crow now :D

I absolutely second this..

I was one of those people who believed the Sabres would finish somewhere between #7-10 seed.

I am happy to be wrong, but I still wonder how much of our success rests on the shoulders of one man - Ryan Miller. Yes, we have a good system and guys are playing tough, defensive hockey, which helps Millsie out quite a bit, but he is without a doubt our MVP (and my vote for MVP of the league).

I don't think the team is all that much better than they have been the last two years, which makes me wonder if the comparison to 1999 isn't a more accurate one for this team.

It is me. I am glad to be back.

I loved the trade for Dumont post. I thought of that last night but honestly who would you take out now? That said I loved JP and would love to see him back.

Can't argue with that but I was saying more from a standpoint of how this team never quits when they get down. That's like 06. As fans we KNOW they'll find a way to win every night. In 99 it was get up a goal, shut it down and let Dom steal it if need be. The league was different then too. I agree Miller is the MVP.

The Toronto media referred to the Sabres as baffling and overachieving just before Xmas. I can't see how they can say that. Most guys on this team grew up here and went throught the battles in 06 and 07. They know what it takes come April and May. As long as we don't draw Ottawa off the bat we are at least 2nd round. Then the sky's the limit.

There's 11 returning players from the 06 team.

Hecht
Grier
Gaustad
Mair
Vanek
Roy
Lydman
Tallinder
Paetsch (depending on what happens)
Pominville
Miller

Well, since Myers did turn into Jesus on Skates, it turns out my "5th or higher, depending" prediction is looking pretty good right about now :D

This team definitely has that feel. They are garnering some more media attention this season, then the 05-06 season, mainly for the way Miller is playing and his selection to the US Olympic Team. We're at the halfway mark, now it's gut check time...

Only halfway through folks. To quote Harvey Keitel from Reservoir Dogs, let's not all start sucking each others' dicks just yet.

Buffalo hasn't even guaranteed themselves an 8th seed yet. And until they do so mathematically, I won't count my chickens. As irony put it, Miller has almost single-handedly put this team where it is right now. The team itself, as I said to my dad a week or so ago after that last Ottawa game, has really played no better than say the Tampa Lightning if you take away Miller's contributions.

look, we all know miller has been playing inhumane, but

a lot of our sucess is due to, Tyler Myers

him logging 20+minutes of ice time every night, and him doing it and playing well, and as a rookie

also, looks what he did with effing tallinder

This team looks and plays nothing like the 05-06 squad. That squad scored "consistently".
This team reminds me of the 84-85 or the 96-97 squad. Goaltending just getting to its peak but the offense lacks heavily. Not a good combination according to how those 2 seasons turned out.

For the record, my post in this thread about my prediction in a previous thread features the words "right about now". Meaning, in the moment. So yea.
