the thing about thorne is, A, he just has a great voice. its wonderful. and B. hes not the show, he just calls it. after that barnes goal, he announces the goal, the score, and lets the arena take over. the out pouring of emotion coming down from those stands is just unbelievable. and you can hear that. sometimes with RJ, you cant. you hear HIS emotion, which is great, and sometimes, not always, i just want to hear the arena do the speaking.

just two very very different styles.

also of note, that goal marked the end of haseks last win in a buffalo uniform.

I dont like talking about this subject because a life without RJ is one I dont want to imagine about yet. But if we needed a replacement I would be happy with James Earl Jones.

I was browsing the NHL 2011 forums and there was a thread on who they would like to announce. There were about 4-5 posts saying the "Buffalo announcer" was the worst in the business, and that they would all be pleased if Doc Emrick announced the game, as he has a "great voice".

I almost puked.

I think Emrick is the reason people hate players like Crosby and Ovechkin. "Scoorrrreeeesss" (in the most feminine voice ever)

I hate Emrick, but I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE Beninati.

San Jose's team is great, but the best in recent history was Phoenix's duo of Pang and Strader. Silky smooth game commentary.

Having two teams of announcers means they have to PAY for two teams of announcers. They could easily afford it, but that's not something they'd invest in for what's still a niche game.

I remember the rumor that EA would record a pile of dialog from every broadcast team. I'm so pissed it never happened.

It's not only a financial issue, but a physical disk space issue. High quality audio that doesn't become too repetitive consumes a healthy amount of disk space.

Mike Lange. He belongs on TV, but the penguins wont nut up to FSN to make it happen. So he should go to a city that would appreciate him.

Yeah, but he's probably too much of a Pens fan to show the same emotion he does on the Penguins' radio broadcasts. The same reason RJ wouldn't be as good calling a national game on VS. or NBC.

That's cuz RJ comes from that old generation of radio guys where you were allowed to be a homer for the team you called games for. His breed is a dying lot, and it makes me sad cuz I still listen to games from any team I can on their online radio feeds.

But yes, as we said...the people that buy nhl ea games are going to buy it every year, no matter what.

Luckily, they upgrade pretty well, and seem to try harder each year, unlike it's madden counterpart.
