Mancari is the size of two Gerbes, but hits like one Gerbe.

im sorry... this just makes me laugh... I think we found a new unit of measure... its like a newton meter... we will call it the gerbe meter... one gerbe hit = one geber meter ... the question becomes, how many gerbe meters is needed to be an effective hockey player...

Would Kaleta hit at a 10 gerbe meters?

Well how many times has he been given a legitimate shot? Why has he played half the games Gerbe has?

Gerbe's getting a lot more chances at staying with the Sabres and I think it's because of a pride issue. The Sabres want to prove that drafting such a short player wasn't a bad idea. It's not working out after almost 20 games so I don't see the problem with waiting until next year. It should be Mancari's turn.

He "disappears" to the AHL.

It shouldn't be anyone's "turn." It should be whoever can make the team out of camp, and Mancari evidently cannot.

But Gerbe did. And what an 18 games it has been! 3 assists! Mancari, who has played 1/18 of the games Gerbe has, has 1/3 of his points already. Why not give him a chance? He looked good. Gerbe hasn't for 18 games.

But why should Gerbe make it over him? I don't see a good reason for it.

Not to mention Mancari's on his last contract if he doesn't prove himself, so give him a chance to prove himself.

I can't say that I am overly thrilled with Gerbe's play, but I don't think he's hurt the team one bit. I say he stays until somebody plays better.

He's had 3 legitimate shots to make the team out of training camp. He's failed each time.

He's had more than one NHL callup. He's been unimpressive each time.

He's had plenty of legitimate shots. He's not good enough.

Mark Letestu had 7 points in 7 games this year for the Penguins, since then he has had 7 points in the next 23 games.

Just because Mancari was lucky enough to get an assist doesn't mean he should stay over Gerbe.

Mancari aside, Gerbe has proven to be exactly what I thought he'd be - a lot of effort that can't overcome his extreme lack of size. He can compete as hard as anybody out there but if he's not physically big or strong enough to win many puck battles he won't create scoring chances. What I've seen over and over so far is how ineffective he is on the forecheck. He can't knock a d-man off the puck, despite his quality effort. He needs space and someone to feed him the puck, and that kind of time and space doesn't exist in the NHL unless you can outwork or outmuscle another player by yourself.

To leave another player that can bang and work the boards off the roster in favor of Gerbe is wrong. I'd take Matt Ellis with Roy and Vanek all day, every day before I'd put Gerbe there. Mancari, Kennedy, Stuart...anybody would be more productive on the forecheck than Gerbe. I can't even call him a bust, because I never thought he was worth the expectation to begin with.
