I think the 98-99 team. There were a lot of underrated players on that team. And it took one of the biggest jobbings in sports history for Dallas to beat us in 6.

Of ALL the Sabres teams in the last 40 years, which one was the most worthy of the Cup?

'74-'75?
'98-'99?
'05-'06?
'06-'07?

Even though the "06-'07 team won the Prez Trophy, I think the '05-'06 team was better, given the rules/enforcement of the day.

I thought '05-'06 was the best. They had it. Injuries to the D killed em. :(

Though the '06-'07 squad produced my favorite win. The Drury goal against the Rangers. :)

05-06 was their year to win it. Had it not been for the annihilation of the defense, taking the Cup that year would have been a cake walk.

I agree, 05-06 man......what a year. We were cruising towards a Cup win and would have had a great chance at it if our D wasn't destroyed. I mean we had a Defensive line made up of kids for fuck sake, and STILL were great.

We were still winning Game 7 going into the third period, and until that game the team winning going into the third period in that series won the game. I remember actually thinking they could get through it and the finals would have been fine because we would have gotten a couple d-men back for that series if I remember correctly, and then they just ran out of gas in the third. Bunch of kids not used to NHL-level play... Ah, well. As long as they win something before I die, I will be content.

I think that was the most heartbreaking loss I've ever witnessed. Especially since I was at game 6.

Brian Campbell, as much as he was loved by the fans, is still the goat for that game 7, don't care what anyone says. And now he's got a fucking ring, it kills me to even think about it.

Maybe you saw me. I was behind cam ward during OT. Had a Stanley cup and I was standing on the arm rests of my chair holding it in the air. Got me on the jumbotron a couple of times.

How fucking loud was HSBC after that game? Wow.

I may be in the minority but I don't feel we lost in '05-'06 primarily due to our ravaged defense for a variety of reasons. We had great chances to win game 5, but Afinocrapov missed on a breakaway late in the 3rd that would have probably sealed it for us, and then Hecht blew a golden opportunity for a tip-in during OT. In game 7, it was the orange haired bimbo as someone stated earlier that took a moronic penalty in the 3rd that led to the go-ahead goal. Losing Connolly was also big that year - he was huge during the 1st 7 games of the playoffs. The D was still pretty solid, even with the loss of key guys.

That penalty was an accident, and a really tough one to deal with.

Campbell was exhausted from playing huge minutes that game to cover for the losses of our other defensemen.

It happens.

I'm probably being too harsh on Soupy, we'll never know if the minutes he played led to that huge error. But game 5 was theirs for the taking.

Yeah that was a close game.

Probably one of the best playoff series I've ever seen. Just had a really shitty outcome.
