Well then. Poor Lalime. We need to acquire a backup at the trade deadline if this team really wants to make a playoff push.

I love how Lalime gave away that puck and then failed to recover, costing the the team the game. And since then he has been treated like a leper by Lindy Ruff. It's frickin hysterical, but honestly I think I might have done the same thing as Ruff. Some coaches would have thrown him right back out there to redeem themselves, some don't. :)

How about a coach who doesn't ride his starting goalies to death?

Lindy is squarely to blame for Miller crashing and burning due to fatigue.

I wonder if this situation would be any different had Miller not made his Lalime man-crush public at the NHL awards last year.

Don't have anything new to add here, just agreement about the goalie situation. Why in the world don't they just waive Lalime if they don't have enough confidence to ever play him. Enroth as backup would save the team a small amount of $ too, and make more sense because then there would be a viable option. that could also give the other goalies in Portland a chance to show their stuff. The Lalime signing makes zero sense at this point unless Darcy signed him without Ruff's approval or knowledge.

Gotta agree on your agreement... and if Miller wants LaLa around that badly, if you waive LaLa, and he clears waivers (god willing)... why couldn't you bring him back as an assistant coach or goalie consultant ... something to keep him around...

Miller is being ridden to death and needs a bit of a rest, i don't really care if its LaLa or Enroth or they bring in someone else to back him up...

Its no slight on Miller, Im just not sure he can handle to work load he wants and/or Lindy is throwing on him... and that falls on Lindy to do a better job there...

I know, I watched the awards. Still...since when is Miller in charge of personnel decisions?

I'm not saying he's in charge, but I would assume his opinion on who backs him up does carry some weight.

I would agree at that point in time, but at the point where we are now, we have a goalie facing his 32nd start, who is 6th on the games played list this year and has missed about a month due to injury, with a back-up who can not get on the ice and we have to call up Enroth to back up the back up?

Makes no sense, bring LaLa on as a coach or consultant if Miller wants him around and go after a real back-up goalie that can spell Miller for a game or two... Again I put this on Ruff to better handle the goalie ice time while managing Miller's ego...

I might have seen Patrick Lalime's last start in person. :(

Regardless of who made the decision, I think at this point we can all agree it was the wrong one.

yep... but there is still time to fix it.... Enroth or trade deadline deal can easily gain you a better back-up... and if Miller wants LaLa around, if he clears waivers, why couldn't the team bring him on as a coach or consultant? Or carry 3 goalies and stick LaLa in the press box with Rivet...

Maybe I have missed this being said, but consider that Enroth keeps getting regular work while in Portland. Lalime sits on the bench while the reigning Vezina winner hogs the ice time. It wasn't a good idea to let Enroth get splinters in Buffalo, getting stale & grumpy. Now that Miller needs a serious break they call up Enroth and likely will continue to have Lalime ride the bench while Miller takes the night off & has a full body massage. Or whatever.

My point is either Lalime or Enroth was going to spend most of his time on the bench in Buffalo.
