Pretty much, all but three of our D's contracts are off the books next year. We most likely won't resign a few of the D-men because of the young talent we have coming up on the backend.
Same with offense next year. I fully expect Grigs and Grigorenko making the team next year, and possibly Armia.
Honestly no big UFA name is on my radar for next year, and like he said, to get an RFA, you really need to overpay, and we simply can't do that just to get a decent player. There is a reason most RFA's stay with their teams. It would be different if he wa the missing piece to a lost Stanley Cup final, but we need to make a solid team first, then trade or acquire those missing pieces.
YOu wouldnt want to make a pitch for Getzlaf or Perry? Let's not forget after next season Miller, Vanek and Pominville are all UFA's thats almost $20 Million in cap space available. With Vanek signing that offersheet with the Oilers my mind is saying he wanted to leave who is to say that he still doesn't want too? Miller might stay but he is up there in age and unless we turn this around quickly I see him leaving. I see Pomiville staying he is the Captain of this team and leading point getter.
I would have signed the 7 million offer sheet too if I was Vanek. He said he cried when he heard that the Sabres had matched the offer. I don't think he necessarily wants out. I also don't see Miller leaving.
