I figured he was. But, as we all know, sarcasm on message boards isn't always easily interpreted.

I plan to leave a lot of comments about Vanek in my head. His play will prove how valuable he is.

Most of you won't be fooled.

I hope he tears it up and never looks back.

Every year Vanek has seemed to figure out another piece of the puzzle. He has always been supremely talented but there were questions about his work ethic and his intensity. As he has matured he has begun to "figure it out". This will truly be a make or break year for Thomas imo. Either he plays with great drive every shift and plays an entire season like he played the first 15 games of last year or I think we may have seen the best he will ever get.

We all do, dude.

If he kicks the shit out of the league this year, I'll finally be able to justify getting that Vanek jersey. But for now, I got my heart set on a Myers sweater!

Easy on Myers; he will probably be great, but expecting that this year is probably unrealistic.

Oh Howie, I know he won't be a world-killer immediately. That's why I'm waiting at least one season before I go hog-wild about him. He has me very excited, yes, but he's still just a kid and may not even play for the Sabres this season.

And he should excite people; he is an intruiging prospect. Be it a year, a couple years, or five years; with his skating ability and size, he will indeed be a force....

Vanek's issue is simply that of consistent work ethic for 82 games a year.

Personally, I wish Lindy would push more guys like he does with Vanek and not fewer.

I think Vanek can elevate his game if he stays healthy. Which in pro sports seems to be difficult to do. Players expect to stay healthy but staying healthy seems to be a privilege few on our team are privy to.

Vanek was benched because he started to play soft and inconsistent. This year he needs to do more than just put up 40-50 goals, he needs to play tougher and drive to the net harder if he wants to be given the extra ice time. Floating around waiting to tip the puck in will not do for Lindy anymore, he wants an intense team that plays with fire.

Vanek knows the recipe to the next level, now let's see if he lays it on the line the way Ruff expects.

parking in front of the net is not floating. thats probably the most brutal place on a hockey surface. and the fact that he does it better then almost everyone in the league is amazing. vanek doesnt float, it just appears he plays with indifference. (which, he doesnt. hes just really laid back)

It is not his offensive zone play which has been upsetting.

He does indeed float when the other team has the puck or is on a rush.

A lot of scorers do. They think offense first, defense later.

Just like Ovechkin, almost every single amazing goal he has scored, he is in the neutral zone behind the other team's defense. Ovechkin is usually waiting for a pass before even thinking about defense. Look at that "amazing" goal he scored against the rangers. Ovie is off screen for like seven seconds until the puck comes trickling towards him, basically alone (until the rangers defense caught up)

Sure you can get goals out of it, but just like the habs game towards the end of the year, it can hurt you.

Vanek did the same thing for Minnesota. Scored some amazing clutch goals, but was the catalyst for not attaching to the player (or zone) he is supposed to be covering.

He just needs to be more responsible, and I hope he is this season. It will help us a lot.
