Kassian was a hefty price to pay. Too hefty. In a couple of years he's going to be a beast, and better than Hodgson.
This is a very strong claim. HF has Hodgson rated a 'B', and Kassian a 'C'. While they are consecutive letters in the alphabet and close in that respect, it's hard to get a B unless you have very strong potential. C means the player comes with a lot more risk. Truth be told, nobody knows how this will end up, but the deal would not have gone through unless both GM's got exactly what they wanted. The NHL is currently in a trend towards middleweights, and that could be a big factor in determining who wins this trade. It's not like the league is going to let 2 or 3 bullies beat up everyone else without restriction, and it doesn't appear their solution is going to be, "dress an enforcer if you don't like it".
I disagree with you about Gerbe DC. I think he has loads of pure talent. He might not be a 20+ goal scorer on a 3rd line, but I love all the attributes he brings to the 3rd line. For the record, until this season I wasn't big on NG, but his speed, quickness, and toughness have hit a soft spot with me.
