I'm still waiting for 2 things to stop happening.

1. seeing cars with Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers
2. Sabres fans carrying on about Briere and Drury

Drury signed a contract to stay here. It wasn't signed off on by ownership. I would say that that's indicative of him wanting to stay here.

But, not worth the argument.

i have never ever heard that.

You obviously haven't been with us for too long.

LOL WHAT?

Today's a great day and the press conference was everything we wanted to hear, and you guys are argueing about Drury.. Some fans..

nevermind, i'm silly.

Well listening to the press conference that was done earlier. I'm just glad the guy sold the team to a diehard Sabres fan. Plus with that idiot Quinn gone this should be a bright future. Now it should be interesting to see what happens with the rest of the front office in the next few months. I have been saying for awhile that if this team was to be competitive year in and year out like the Red wings that their fan base would be huge and the team would make more money than they were making.

Thanks Tom Pegula and look forward to see what you have in store.

STATEMENT FROM TERRY PEGULA
Thursday, 02.03.2011 / 3:18 PM / News
Buffalo Sabres
“As diehard fans of the Buffalo Sabres, the Pegula Family would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Tom Golisano and Larry Quinn on their commitment to the hockey fans of Western New York and their dedicated stewardship of the franchise. Without their generosity and perseverance through tough economic times and league labor issues, there would not be a team for the Buffalo hockey community to support. We will be forever grateful for their efforts in developing one of the best markets in the National Hockey League and providing the foundation for future successes. My wife Kim and I are hopeful that the league’s approval process of our intent to purchase the franchise will move swiftly and we can begin the next era of Buffalo Sabres hockey in the very near future.”

Hopefully with Pegula Buffalo can be a more attractive team.

You'll see #1 some day.

You'll never see #2.

The losses of Briere and Drury are one of the all time low points of this organization's history, and it will forever be brought up.

Doesn't have to be.

It's over and done with now. The people most responsible for it are leaving. It's the textbook definition of beating a dead horse.

I'm waiting for one of our hack media personalities to ask Pegula something like "How will you run things differently to prevent a repeat of the Drury/Briere situation?" or "What would you have done differently to prevent both Drury and Briere from leaving had you owned the team then?"

Bank on that happening in the first month or so.

Are you recommending that we forget the history of this organization?

I realize that it doesn't need to be mentioned all the time, but it's natural for this issue to come up organically when talking about the departure of the group of people that made it happen, and no one here should be taking exception to it.

I'm not recommending that at all.

I just feel that it's an overdiscussed , overanalyzed, and beaten to death topic. What is there to glean from addition discussion?

No Goal wasn't even dredged up this long, and I'd say that it was more important organizational event than July 1.

No Goal was out of our control. The Sabres do have control of the players they choose to sign or release.

We're talking about quite possibly the most dominant teams in Sabres history (statistically so), tumbling to the ground like a game of Jenga by pulling one piece at a time.

Yeah, I'm still pissed about it, and some of us feel like talking about it as part of the legacy of TG, LQ, and DR, as they walk out the door.

Definitely in the Briere department, that's a shame too after the epic trade they made to get him there. Should have and could have.

But Drury...I'm still trying to wrap my head around Sabre fan reactions to this one. At the time, or maybe even a year after the fact I kind of get it, because he was a heart and soul type of player and leader (but if I ever hear how he was a little league all star again...). But to still be upset or to criticize MGMT to this day over him?! I mean really? he had the 2 best season of his career in Buf, since he left he's played 262 games, scored 61 goals, and 89 assists for 150 points. Those aren't even Connolly worthy numbers and at a 7 million dollar cap hit!?! I am THRILLED that they have dodged that bullet! He doesn't even have a goal this season. Worst contract in the NHL bar none.

Buffalo wouldn't have necessarily paid him 7 million had the signed him half way through the season. I believe the deal they had drafted was a 5 million dollar cap hit.

Additionally, there's something to be said about the momentum this team would have maintained had those players been resigned. You can't just automatically assume that Briere and Drury would have performed miserably the following year.

I can't say for sure they WOULDN'T have, but after back to back trips to the Eastern Conference finals with these guys at the helm, I have a hard time believing that we wouldn't have seen more of the same.
