Heh heh.

I'm just trying to process all this info.

We got told that Pegula signed a letter of intent. That turned out to be false.

We got told that BTG and Pegula had agreed on a price of $175M. That turned out to be false.

There's just so much BS about this that I find myself downplaying it a bit until I hear something from the NHL, the Sabres, or Mr. Pegula. All these other media reports just seem to be regurgitating the same early, and inaccurate, reports.

I'm with Tom on this. With all the bullshit that the media slung around this past week I have no faith that anything is going to happen.

Official press release from the NHL reference the BOG, mentions the Yotes but nothing about the Sabres.

Among the topics on the agenda for the meetings is the salary cap for next season, an update on the sale of the Phoenix Coyotes and the effectiveness of the rule banning blind-side hits to the head put into place at the start of the 2010-11 regular season.

"Among the topics" means that there were more topics discussed that aren't mentioned in this article.

They very well could have been discussing the Buffalo sale.

I'm not that far. There's enough smoke to think that there's a fire. I just think that this isn't as far along as has been reported to date.

May be I dove over the edge too quickly. I should change it to "happen anytime soon." Obviously Pegula has a huge interesting in buying the team since this is his second go around but I'll be surprised if it happen in the time frame being reported.

They could be keeping it quiet because of all the recent media attention.

I doubt it. I think that they're talking, but nothing is settled yet.

I trust that THN didn't make up the whole letter of intent thing, but that story clearly set the expectation that things were farther along than they really were.

Anyone have any ideas of when we'll know something?

Ya, this I agree with.
People will need to be patient with this process.
It'll be in Jan. or Feb. before Mr. Pegula takes over, but as for the sale itself, its going to happen.
It doesn't matter to me either way, were going to be stuck with Darcy until the end of the season either way.

But I do know this sale is going down. There is no real "talking" going on. The price has been established and agreed to by both parties. Its just the matter of formalities to go through on the league end while Tommy G's people get the exit strategy in order and Peg's transition team gets in place.

He seems to have a source close to the sabres.

See the Darcy part does matter.

Either Darcy does something this offseason or during the season (trade deadline) or something, or he might be losing a job.

If Pegula bought the team, I would love to see him promote Darcy to President as well as GM so he can pretty much have the power to do what he wants. I dont think we'll see a lot of Darcy haters after that.

No one has actually asked me why I feel the way I do about Regier, suprisingly.

He did navigate the franchise through the Rigas' fiasco and then the lockout and the team was stronger because of moves he made, I never doubted his ability to address issues.
What I do call into question, hell, I not only call it into question but out right ask he be fired or resign.
Why you ask?

Because of his competence level to take the Sabres to the promise land.

He lacked the vision to give Hasek what he needed in front of him to seal the deal.
He then went on to do what was mentioned above, then, the bottom fell out.

The Drury/Briere debacle will forever be etched into my mind. How an NHL GM can take a "Stanley Cup Contending Team" and turn it into a 500 product is beyond baffling, its genuine incompetence, and on an epic scale.

Lets not attempt to diminish the fact that he received absolutely zero in return for gutting the team of its leadership and prime talent players in Drury and Briere.

What was really jaw dropping to me was watching it all unfold as a lifetime Sabres fan. It isn't a matter of forgiveness from a fan like me, I'd just as soon he quietly exit, stage left even, as soon as that happened.
He didn't, and i've watched the product flounder like a ship without sails for 3, going on 4 seasons now.

I think a lot of things that Darcy gets blamed for, ie. Drury/Briere situation, were more Quinn's fault for interfering with Darcy and so on. I don't know what the whole deal was but if Darcy was given full control like Burke has in TO, we would see why he is so highly regarded in the hockey world. Only 3 GM's of hockey teams were invited to the World Hockey Summit this past summer. Lou Lamiorello, Brian Burke, and Darcy regier. That's gotta tell you something.

I am not discounting what people are saying about Quinn.
I just want the proof he made the call. I've yet to see one single shred of proof.

I can only go by who's job it is to oversee player/personnel decisions, and that falls squarely into the job description of the General Manager (GM). Thats Darcy Regier.

There is proof that LQ meddled in hockey decisions when he was president under the Knox family. There's no reason to think he wouldn't be doing it this time around.

This.

I'd love to see what Darcy could do when given the reigns of the team.
