Yeah. When someone goes on LTIR, they still get paid, but it doesn't count against cap numbers. That's what happened a couple years ago with Connolly. They were able to go over the cap because TC was on LTIR. (They were also investigated by the NHL to make sure they weren't stashing Connolly there when he was no longer hurt. )

This year is the aberration. If Roy's injury happens in past years, I think they may have tried to go get a replacement. This year, because of the sale, they were less inclined. I don't like it, but I can understand why.

The numbers don't lie. BTG spent a lot of money on player salaries when he was the owner. He was not cheap.


I disagree Squanto, BTG was cheap. I hate to bring this up but if he wasn't Drury and Briere would be Sabres. He treated the Sabres with a buisness first mentality their was no passion after the first few season. He cared more about breaking even rather than winning.


And if they were, we'd be paying Chris Drury the same money as Vanek to have the same points as Hecht.

I would love to know how you could predict that.


yes, the sabres would have magically kept drury from being the spectacular bust that he has been since his new contract...

I hate the Drury/Briere drama bullshit. Not because I'm sick of hearing about it, but because of the retarded arguments surrounding it.

1) If we had kept them, we'd have had to get rid of other players. We'd have to sign the same number of players with a smaller chunk of money. Think about that.

2) You can say Drury's been a bust (and yeah, he has) and that Briere is streaky, but you can't begin to predict how they would have performed if they had remained Sabres.

I'm not even pissed off at this loss. The difference between any other team being in a 2-1 position and the Sabres, is that another team will kick, claw, fight and try anything under the sun to drive a puck home to tie it up. Not keep trying to break out of the zone the same way, play after play after play.

I think Grier, Gaustad (outside of faceoffs), Neidermayer and Connolly very well may just be the most useless players in the NHL. Even for 4th line players (except for Connolly who does absolutely nothing ever).

i think that if the sabres just plan sucked, like the Islanders, Senators or Oilers, we would be more okay with it because, well, the team sucks ass. the thing is, we've seen Buffalo play good hockey and we know they can win close games and even, on occasion, pull a win out of their ass.

this just makes games like the past 3 even more frustrating and annoying.

I think the loss to Toronto drained them. Their mindset is more than likely, well, if we can't beat the Laughs, who can we beat?

It's a psychology thing. They'll hopefully get out of it in time.
