i was in your boat- i thought he was the man, but seeing some of the classic games, other than the memorable barnabyisms, i don't think he is that much better than kaleta.

Barnaby was never really an impact player with the exception of one playoff game against Montreal in which he had a hat trick. The Sabres were trying to shop him around for months before he was finally traded for Stu B. I don't think an impact player would be so clearly put on the blocks, or at least be put in the blocks for so long without many teams interested.

And to follow up to PatGreens post, we love guys who aren't supposed to make it and do, then under achieve. Gerbe, Kennedy, Ellis, Kaleta (let the shit storm begin), etc guys who show potential, but never really impact the game. Example being Kaleta supposed to be the next Matt Barnaby, couldn't even lace Barnabys skates, Gerbe being an Adam Oates type player, bust. Kennedy supposed to be a Stu Barns, bust. Ellis can't score more than 15 points in a season, bust. Everyone loves those guys though.

A lot of fans have unrealistic expectations of certain players, too. A lot of fans lack patience for younger players.

What exactly do you think Ellis was brought here to do? You'd call him a bust because he couldn't cap 15 points?

Kennedy was a bust because his first full NHL season wasn't stellar? He's always been a left winger, and then he gets brought up to Buffalo and is expected to play center. There's no way he'd maintain his scoring pace with that change of position.

Gerbe's a bust because he underachieves even though he's nearly on a point every 2 game pace as a rookie?

Kaleta's a bust because... ?

Who's expectations are they failing to live up to exactly?

Parrish did not do much tonight, but it was his first game as a Sabre.

Adam sucked where he left off. I will gladly send his ass back to Portland, or he can stay if he gets his head out of his ass.

Its too bad Mancari really hasn't found a fit in the NHL...Kinda reminds me of Denis Hamel who can tear it up in the A but not at the show...
Well, Hamel wasn't the same after that knee injury

Adam has 4 career NHL games at age 20, what are your unrealistic expectations of him this early in his pro career?

He looks really damn slow and barely shows any skill. That's not something you can just improve in a night.

I actually think Adam is an excellent prospect. He's obviously still very raw, but I like how he goes to the net and his offensive positioning in general. His timing needs work as he often doesn't get his stick on the puck. With his size, I can easily envision him as a solid power play fixture in the years ahead, scoring lots of garbage goals.

I may have to retract some on my Mancari mangina comments... I was at the game last night and fairly high up... 3 rows from the top... decent sight lines but a little hard to tell a couple things... but let me get your thoughts on the Mancari...

1) I saw him ALMOST unleash hell... but he must have grabbed pommers stick... cause it blew up... I just want to see that shot!

2) I saw him tossing punches... but missed what that was all about... wasn't expecting to see the pretty one tossing punches...

What did you guys see out of Mancari? Does he need a solid 10-15 games on a first or second line to see if he can mesh well? Do you give him another training camp? Or is he gone at seasons end?

he's had 3-4 opportunities to crack the lineup plus numerous call ups. dude isn't made for our team. he doesn't really skate well- that's always been the issue. he could make it on another team for sure, but i don't think he's going to make it here.

he did seem a bit slow last night... I was shocked at how well Neids skated last night... there were a few times i saw him get up ice quick... maybe a couple goals have invigorated the ole boy....lol

I liked Mancari... but your right... doesn't seem quick... doesn't get physical in the corners... Gerbe is more gritty and does more "dirty work" than Mancari.... which is why Gerbe has been up all year... and Mancari hasn't...

I still say Gerbe isn't NHL ready, and like Mancari, is an AHL guy.

Gerbs is capable of not being a liability, and he has more offensive upside than Mancari.

I still know he's capable of skating harder. He's gotten back to coasting a little bit more. He needs to keep his feet moving the whole time he's on the ice. Speed is a great weapon.

What the hell is your problem? The guy needs to control the puck and score. Anyone can do that.
