I would Patty getting 3-4 starts is about right. The next two weeks we play M, W, F, Sa followed by M, W, F, Su, Tu. 13 games in 22 days. Follow that up with 14 games in January right before the Olympics and we should expect to see Lalime quite a bit. The conditioning stint was a great call be Darcy or Lindy or whoever called for it. Now let's hope the Sabres can play better in front of him than they have in the past. I think between December and January Patty's gonna get 8-10 starts. As I've said before, he's not a bad goalie when he gets more action.

Lalime loses again in portland

Bruins Nip Pirates to End Streak

Portland, Maine – Brad Marchand scored the game winner on a power-play midway through the third period as the Providence Bruins shaded the Portland Pirates 4-3 in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 4,095 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Trent Whitfield added a pair of goals for the Bruins, who won their fourth straight game to improve to 14-11-1-0 on the season. Jordan Knackstedt rounded out the Providence scoring.

Cody McCormick, Derek Whitmore and Kyle Wanvig struck for the Pirates, who saw their 11-game point streak (7-0-3-1) come to an end with the loss. The Pirates are now 12-11-3-1 on the season.

Providence jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the game but goals by McCormick and Whitmore evened the count. Knackstedt struck late in the frame to push the Bruins ahead 3-2 after one. Wanvig netted the lone goal of the second to send the two teams into the third tied at three. Marchand settled with his third straight game winning goal, two of which came in a shootout, eight minutes into the third period.

The Pirates out shot the Bruins 29-26 in the game as Patrick Lalime took the loss in his second and final conditioning appearance with Portland.

The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the game were 1. Whitfield; 2. Marchand and 3. McCormick.

The weekend ends Sunday afternoon when the Pirates travel to Worcester to take on the Sharks in the next installment of the UNUM Challenge. The 3:05 p.m. game can be heard live on News Talk WLOB 95.5 FM and on-line at www.portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show at 2:45 p.m.

Lalime played like crap in losing yet again last night, giving up 4 goals on just 26 shots. Considering Portland was on fire before Patty Buzz Kill came and lost two in a row, pardon me if I'm not too excited about the idea of him starting multiple games in place of Miller before and after the Olympic break.

I want Marty in a Sabres uniform by month's end.

I doubt the Islanders will be hasty to move Biron by the end of the month, I think DiPietro has a long way to go.

League rules require the Islanders to recall him to the NHL after his December 15th start. Two weeks is the maximum a player is allowed to spend on a conditioning assignment in the AHL. While he was rusty, he was healthy and moving well. He is an active roster Islander effective December 16th, period.

Bingo. This rule is in place to prevent teams from stashing players in the AHL to circumvent the cap.

Quote:
13.8 Conditioning Loan. Unless a Player consents, he shall not be Loaned on a Conditioning Loan to a minor league club. Such Conditioning Loan shall not extend for more than fourteen (14) consecutive days. The Commissioner may take whatever steps he deems necessary to investigate the circumstances under which a Player is Loaned on a Conditioning Loan. If the Commissioner has reason to believe or determines that the Club has used the Conditioning Loan to evade the Re-Entry Waivers, or otherwise Circumvent any provision of this Agreement, he may take such disciplinary action against the Club, as he deems appropriate. The Player shall continue, during the period of such Conditioning Loan, to receive the same Paragraph 1 NHL Salary, and be entitled to the same benefits, that he would have received had he continued to play with the Club

Can only be there for 14 days, and most of the time only used if you haven't played recently or very much, and it gets you into shape.

We knew what we wer getting; the year before we signed him he put up nasty back-to-back .896 and .897 SV% seasons in two years with Chicago. His numbers have essentially remained the same since he came to Buffalo.

Nice guy, but a very mediocre backup.

EDIT: Before Chicago, in 05-06 with St Louis, he had a brutal .881 SV%...his sub par goaltending goes back years, and will only be getting worse now that he's older and coming off multiple injury problems.
