I can't say they played well because they had little to no sustained momentum all game and constantly made uninspired plays. I will say I got right up out of my seat as soon as Pominville started that pass up to Vanek.

Last night I had this great post about the organist, but I lost it when my internet connection went out. the main point I was trying to make is that the organist doesn't do much to inspire the crowd. I like organ music at baseball and hockey games, but honestly the HSBC organist kinda sucks. He or she has very little rhythm for one, and always seems to try to rush through each musical phrase and get it over with as fast as possible. Plus, there is never any VARIATION in the music. All that ever gets played for the most part is the two chords of "Da Da, da da da, Let's go Buffalo". And probably not surprisingly, this is what the crowd reaction is:

Da Da, da da da,
Let's go Buffalo
Da Da, da da da,
Let's go Buffalo

The only other different things the organist does (and this happens every game) is play either "Lady of Spain" or "the Sabre dance" is a wretched way that sounds like an inept carnival organist, then abruptly stop and change into "Da Da, da da da". Really, it adds very, very little entertainment aside from what's happening on the ice, and it does a poor job getting the fans into what's happening on the ice.

The music and musical atmosphere in the arena really needs to be upgraded.

It's not the arena, it's the people. lol. So sad people forgot how to cheer(some of it is lost forever with the suds though). Worst part is the only person who I ever DO hear is some whiny old lady going, "That's it BOYS, go get em BOYS". For the love of god, someone get hammered, and drown out this annoying bitch, pleez. Every Toronto-Buffalo game I ever went to with Ray-Domi, I'd shout through cuffed hands as loud as I could, "kick his fucking ass rayzor". I'd be so redneck if I did that now. At the time, I guess everyone was so intense they didn't realize you even offended their kids? Only once did a guy tell me to quit rockin' the boat(it was for smoking inside right after they changed the rules anyway, not for being a punk rocker).

definitely agree with that.

there have been a few times this season specifically where i've been going nuts cheering and have just gotten the nastiest, most shocked looks from people.

its totally upsetting too, because maybe this is part of why our home record is so lousy this season. hsbc is too easy to play in as a visiting team. were not taunting them, were not cheering loud for our guys, were not making the place rock. :snooty:

Mike, if you were the DJ, no one would come to games (which would be the same problem for me).

Also, the organist is consistently criticized for his sloppy play and limited repertoire.

I agree to an extent, but some songs are just turrible. Plenty of them get played in HSBC.

At TD Garden, they played a variety of stuff. Many different genres, but they were CONSTANTLY doing it. The crowd was always engaged in some way or another.

(They did fail by playing 'Black and Yellow' during warmups though. Nobody around us seemed to know that's Pittsburgh's song.)

Tom, what's one fundamental difference between the loud-as-hell Bruins crowd and the typical Sabres crowd that you noticed while you were at the game in Boston?

Involvement.

Every time they were bumping a new tune, they were showing fan shots of people going crazy. Not just the oh hai, waive at the camera stuff like we have here. These people were dancing, bumping, grinding, going ape shit, whatever. Some of the dancing stuff was footage from other games, but a lot of was live. When they just got people that waved, they dumped in some old stuff, whamo. People were up and cheering again.

Plus they played DMX after the Gaustad/McQuaid fight. (The one that almost caused me to fight a grandmother.)

I went to a game in Boston once. I was wearing sabres gear and I got heckled mercilessly. The biggest difference I noticed was that Boston fans spent more time heckling the other team than cheering for their own team. They would do the music for a "let's go Bruins" chant, and instead of saying "let's go Bruins", they'd say "Hasek sucks". That kind of stuff happened throughout the game.

yeah, the regular season atmosphere is a lot different than the playoffs.

Boston fans are the ones that love the Boston announcers, and said announcers were glad that Montador got boarded by that big goon Chara.

I went last year to TD and most of the fans seemed to be FANS, not just observers. They were engaged and were more aggressive than the average Sabres fan.

It's funny you mentioned the Gaustad fight. When he fought last year at TD I was pissed as well because they had a third man in. Very close to the punching the grandmother comparison as well.
