I realize that, but it's not like Kennedy was asking for a price out of line for his value.
Hell, at $900k, Darcy would have saved money by paying the man and avoiding arbitration altogether.

Yea, I'm really pleased with the $1M award. I kind of agree with Darcy here, tho - I mean, with so much space to spare, the Sabres finally - FIIIIIIIIIINALLY - will have the cushion to bring in a star rental at the deadline this year (hey it could happen).

Exactly.

Who do you think pays for the arbitrator? It's not the league.

Quote:
(o) Expenses.
Each party shall be responsible for its own expense of participation in the
arbitration. The cost of the arbitration proceedings, including the Salary Arbitrator's fees
(whose fees for each day such Arbitrator performs salary arbitration services for the
parties shall, in no event, exceed the Arbitrator's daily rate (e.g., an Arbitrator who both
hears a case on the same day he is reading briefs for another case shall only be paid his
daily rate for such day, not two (2) times his daily rate)) and expenses, shall be shared
equally among the parties.

I'm pleased with the award, but given what allegedly happened with negotiations, I just hope relations with Kennedy haven't been tainted.

Hey, that would help A LOT. Imagine, we get that guy we need to beat Boston.

You stop it, Raffi Torres was very helpful. He's the reason McCormick is full time now. :p

Yeah, but they DID still beat us, even with the best goalie in the world and Tyler [Ennis] playing redonkulously amazing.

If Hecht and Vanek were both healthy, the Sabres would have won that series in five. And I will never believe otherwise.

HAHA I was just thinking the exact same thing!

I also like the contract awarded to Kennedy. Hopefully this means all those rookie mistakes are over and done with!

I really hate to be argumentative, but we would have beaten the canes if we hadn't been so far down on D men we were pulling people out of the stands and giving them skates. What happened is our depth failed us both times, and our core (besides those two) failed us last year. Where did Roy, Connolly and Pommers all go? I love all of them (except connolly) to death, but they vanished and the new guys couldn't pick up the combined slack of them and Hecht/Vaneks absence.
The superhuman efforts of Ennis and McCormick should have been enough, but everyone was so far off we couldn't rebound. That's not just an injury problem, thats a TEAM problem. One of those guys (probably Connolly since his deal expires sooner) will be gone at the deadline/end of next year.

Line combinations are what matter if you don't have superstars on the team. Hecht made the Connolly line work, and if you can't see that you're blind. His defensive play would also have been a boon, ESP on the PK where the Sabres got shredded. Plus, Vanek was white hot going into the playoffs and if there's one thing that can fuck the other team, it's a star getting hot in April.

Ennis did play amazingly, but you can't foister that kind of responsibility on a kid like that and hope he single-handedly wins a series. That's just fucking stupid. That's incredibly stupid. And McCormick didn't play with a super-human effort, he did exactly what he was called up to do - provide toughness.

And in 05/06, are you really blaming the team's depth for losing when they only had two NHL caliber defensemen by the time game 7 against the Canes came about. That's not depth issues, that's the worst luck ever.

I agree a bit, yet I do say that Connolly and Roy not playing well fucked us badly.

I never said that losing Hecht and Vanek weren't big losses, but the teams inability to buckle down and actually WIN a game said about all we need about this teams spine... or lack thereof. We had a twenty year old kid lead our team in points, and our "core" shat themselves once Vanek and Hecht went down.

Yeah, you're spot on with the core shitting the bed against Boston. But you can't complain about a lack of depth when 4 of your defensemen go down. That kind of pile on is just rediculous. If they lost 2 defensemen and their call ups couldn't get the job done, then that's fine. But seriously, they didn't play a single pairing with 2 NHL defensemen that game. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY has that kind of depth in their system.

I'll agree that without Vanek and Hecht we were doomed, it didn't look like it at first, but no Vanek on the PP killed us, and no Hecht on the PK killed us.

If Roy and Connolly played better, Vanek and Hecht healthy, we might win. If the refs were fair we win.

Threw the last one in there. Just had to. :D
