“He’s going to see some practices off in order for us to use him more (in games),” said Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff during his weekly 8 a.m. Tuesday appearance on The Howard Simon Show. “You’ll see some back-to-back nights when Patty (Lalime) will play.”

Do you think taking some practices off will really help keep him rested enough to start in more games? Hmmm. I guess only Lindy and Ryan know the answer to that.

Pipe dream. They won't eat Lalime's contract.

If Ruff ruins Millers amazing season so far by tiring him out and playing him too much, I am going to be one pissed little dude.
If Ruff ruins the Sabres good season so far by playing Patty Lalime, I am going to be one pissed little dude.

It's lose-lose unless we get a decent back-up.
I can't believe Darcy hasn't moved Lalime yet... I mean seriously, he was shitty last year AND had offseason hip surgery. He is not going to get any better Darcy! Stop pretending.

Either Marty or Hedberg or whoever they get, they need an improvement over Lalime in order to continue to win and keep Miller fresh for his Olympic debut and the post-season. Lalime needs to get traded or waived, but there's no way he gets bought out...unfortunately.

Practices off to keep him rested in games?

Ooookaaaaay.

That sounds... interesting. I understand the hesitation in playing Lalime, though.

Giving Miller practices off will certainly help his stamina. I can't understand why anyone would think otherwise. The only thing is it may affect his sharpness.

Islanders will want to get rid of Biron. Why trade DiPeitro? You wont get anything for him or Roloson, since Rolli is retiring soon probably. MacDonald sucks so will be their third goalie, and Biron wants to go to the Sabres. He wants to start, but he wont get a job starting anywhere. Either he comes here, or stops his career. Come on Biron, we offered him a contract in the offseason, he wants us, we want him! BRING BACK MARTY!!!

I can understand Miller taking off some practices... If anything it will help him rest mentally. I just hope that it's enough and I hope Lalime can win us some games obviously. And while I'm not advocating Miller playing a whole bunch of games, I do think he'd be better prepared to handle the workload than he was a few seasons ago when he played 76 games or whatever it was. He's talked about how he's changed a lot of what he does in both the offseason and regular season to be better prepared, and he's usually a man of his word. Of course giving him rest is essential, but I think he's more prepared to handle a larger workload than he was a few seasons ago.

I'm all for getting rid of Miller and bringing in Marty. The team needs toughness, and Marty and Patty fight.

So, kind of an interesting situation we have here. With Miller looking to be the starting goalie for the US in the Olympics and Lindy an assistant coach for Canada, it looks like Lindy will be criticized no matter what happens. If he plays Miller a lot and he shits the bed in the Olympics or if he rests Miller and the US does good, what ever happens Lindy is in a rough spot.

Joey MacDonald signed with Toronto. Not like he played twice this week or anything.
