Quote:
As surprising as it is to have a gangly rookie Tyler Myers currently setting the time-on-ice pace for the Sabres, the fact 23-year-old Chris Butler is the only other 20-minute player on the team is an equal eye-opener.

Beset by injuries to more experienced defenders such as Craig Rivet and Andrej Sekera, the Sabres have had to plug in some fresh faces to carry the load. And given how the team sits atop the Northeast Division with a 15-7-2 record, the contributions from guys like Butler have certainly helped get this team back to its winning ways after missing the playoffs last season.

Obviously they have no clue that Butler and Myers are higher on the depth chart than Sekera.

I think they're going with total games played, ETC.

Good read. Butler reminds me a lot of, for those who are old enough to remember, Bill Hajt. Positionally sound without all the flash. More often than not, the best defensemen are the ones who don't get noticed by the average watcher.

Isnt that an old hockey saying. The best defenceman is the one you dont notice or something like that.

I like Butler. I'm just waiting until he incorporates an offensive game to really like him.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Butler/Myers pairing after Tallinder is traded for Biron.

I think Butler tends to fly under the radar due to all the attention on Myers... however he's a solid defenseman with a lot of potential. Once he gets a tad bit more confidence and offense, I think Butler's going to do great things for the Sabres.

I agree completely, but the one bit of criticism I have with Butler is that he could be much more physical. He's got some size and should be more willing to use it.

The thing about Butler is.. when you notice him, it's an atrocity.

Agreed, its almost like I prefer not to notice him and him do well and do the things he needs to do. Rather than notice him and he is doing something bad... haha

Yeah i agree with that, im hoping with time he'll get there... just from last season to this season i've already seen so much improvement. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Definitely. He's a solid boy who should learn to throw the body more.

He has made an awful lot of mistakes in the past 7 to 10 games or so, but its to be expected with his age. He needs to move his feet more, he is a real totem pole out there. He is big and needs to use his body more as well.

But other than those few youthful mistakes, he is going to be a solid 3 or 4 defender. I can't see him as a 1 or 2. Myers will be a solid top 2 defender, I am praying Grags steps in and him and Myers play together like the Coors Light Twins Tits Bounce together :D

Hey, and Tallinder's stock is up with that goal he scored
