Article by Rafal Ladysz

At first I was like BUHWUT and then I read the whole article, and the similarities are really kinda freaky. If Ladysz is right, then 2010/2011 might be a huge year for Reggie.

Link Fail ^

Anyways.... It would be nice if Sekera stepped up his game, I mean we all do want a great D corp, which has gotten better than last year Ten Fold, so if it keeps going up Ill be pleased, but anything could happen, he could get hurt he could just not develop, who knows, Its hard to try and predict what one player will turn out to be just by judging by how another player had progressed.

He had me up until the point where he said sekera reacts calmly under pressure with the puck. :P

I thought it was a good article though, I don't think it's out of the realm of believability to say it takes longer for an Off Def to adjust to the NHL game.

The believers in Sekera's potential were about 50/50 or less.

But I think that if he can keep his confidence up and just get a little better with his outlet passes, he can be a very good offensive defenseman.

Not only that, but Reggie is fucking FAST man!

Reggie should be in the lineup nightly. He provides an offensive spark no one else does. Its hard to sit Rivet/Tallinder/Lydman/Butler/Montador but they are all very similar players, style-wise. Sekera is a different variety of defenseman that should be utilized.

My ideal D-corp would be...
Rivet/Butler
Tallinder/Myers
Lydman/Sekera

Montador is the odd man out and I hate doing that because he actually gets his shots on net but he will fill in enough for injuries to make his roster spot worthwhile.

I agree with you on Montador. I like the guy, and he's been an extremely solid player for us, but his skills just aren't good enough to keep him in this league for too many more years.

Very interesting read. I like Sekera, but I doubt he'll become Dan Boyle....

I don't know. I think it depends on the team.

Lets not get too high on Reggie yet. When you're playing a team with a big bunch of power forwards, like the Leafs on Monday night, I'd much rather have Montador in for that situation than Sekera.

Sekera should be in the lineup nightly...as a forward on the 4th line where his skating ability, skill, and willingness to go deep into the corners and fight for the puck has proven to be very valuable.

Keep him away from the blue line except as emergency fill in.

"Sekera also uses his speed to get out of trouble like Boyle and reacts calmly to unpredictable situations."

This is patently false. When pressured, Reggie folds - His defensive-zone turnovers (when being forechecked) have been the stuff of nightmares and endless cursing, in my household.

The guy's had a few sound games, but "Dan Boyle"? Dan fucking Boyle?

Not quite yet, me buckos.

OK, you're all missing the point.

He's not Dan Boyle and he may never be Dan Boyle, but Dan Boyle wasn't the Dan Boyle we now know either until his fifth year in the league.

But yea, the whole "reacts calmly under pressure" part? Total shit.

I personally (me, the guy that watches Hockey?) don't see that Andrej Sekera (regardless of the skill-set, statistical correlations, or potential - with a great big wide-open future, that no one can predict) has the "hunger", the "moxie", the "balls" to be any more than perhaps a Frank Kaberle type of player.

He ain't got the "Kaleta" in him. I can't see him doing the extra work necessary. He just hasn't shown himself to be one who can grab the bull by the horns, or whatever, and be a "Master of His Destiny".

He'll become more skillful and more experienced, no doubt. But, I could never see/envision him as "the missing piece on a Stanley Cup run" - The difference-maker.

Just me, though.

Well we all know how long it took Brian Campbell to become the player he is now, or was when he was with us.

Those players take some time, maybe Sekera will develop into that great offensive defensmen, maybe not. We still need to be patient with him.

Plus he really is the only other guy who can move the puck up ice and be a threat on offense. Myers is the other as both are very fast skaters.

i actually thought he was going to break out this year and lead our d-men in points.....i still think he can become a good one, or at least a good offensive d-man....

i also don't mind etc's idea that if wee get too log jammed at d, then put him on offense

Sky and MILM understand - it takes time for these kinds of players to develop. Maybe he'll emerge and maybe not - we just have to wait and see.
