Listen to the Lindy Ruff interview on WGR:

http://audio.wgr550.com/m/audio/2780741 ... geid=28476

He is PISSED. And he said, "They're in there riding the bikes right now. If we're not going to work in the game, we're going to work after it."

I love it.

i think the suicides/ladders/herbies would be better, just like the 1980 olympic team.

Paraphrasing the audio:

"An embarassing effort. I want guys who will work hard. No sugarcoating, and they are in there on the bikes right now. If they won't work in the game, they can work now."

Good for you, Lindy. I'm proud you are showing that fire.

He also confirmed Sieve Lalime will be in net against Washington...as horrible as that will likely turn out, he just has to do it.

Time to call up Ennis again? Give one of the Top Six primadonnas a night off?

Absolutely.

He should have been here tonight as it is.

Kaleta needed to be on the 4th line with Mair and Ellis. I miss having Goose-Kaleta-Ellis together. They fucking beasted it up on people all game.

We NEED a line like that intact.

Agreed.

Hecht, Roy or Pominville need a "night" off.

Bring in that 4 year old who memorized the Victory Speech

Kudos to Lindy. Work their butts off after the game. Just when they thought they could go home,
go to bed, and wake up to cash an undeserved paycheck.

In all honesty, I've been waiting for Ruff to either have a heart attack from their play, or walk out of the locker room with a set of the sabre players nuts roasting on a stick.

I think enough is enough and the "Pat on the back" approach has had it's time served. These guys need a good fuckin kick in the pants. If they don't work in the games and skate for those loose pucks, then they can work up a sweat after the game.

I'm not even too concerned with Patty starting the next game. If this team doesn't respond to having their feelings hurt or even being spanked by the Devils, boo fucking hoo. There's the door. Don't let it hit you in the arse on the way out. You can't use the whole, "Oh lalime stunk tonight.." It was #30 in the pipes tonight. And we stunk up the joint. I'm not overly pissed we lost tonight. I'm pissed off at these fucking guys who make the coin and go home thinking, "ho hum, how will I recover from this loss? How about I go swim in my money."

Fuck. You.

These guys have proven they can play. Just seems like they take some nights off because they feel they can justify it. For fuck sakes, even in my beer league, if you decide you worked hard enough the game past and you don't need to work as hard in the current or next game, you're benched until you learn your lesson.

Make'em earn their stay, Lindy.

This game made me want to puke. Then rip my head off and pour the puke down my neck-hole. Then shit out the puke and mail it to the Sabres with a note that says, "Here. You did this."

GOOD.

There was nothing worse about the last few seasons than watching him give up hope. He NEVER did this kind of thing the past few years.

Lindy was still pretty hot this morning on his WGR interview. I can't even begin to imagine what that locker room sounded like.

Folks.

*sigh*

This should not be "punishment" - Just like watching video and dissecting it after the fact should not be "punishment". Just like skating hard, for about an hour, each and every practice, should not be "punishment". Just like lifting weights after each and every game, for about an hour, should not be "punishment".

These should be standard operating procedures, for any team who's goal it is to elevate their game-readiness, in preparation for a long, healthy season and a deep Cup-run, without let-down.

It's what the "pro's" do. Look at Brind'Amour, Drury, Modano, Iginla, Koivu, Jason Blake, Mark Recchi, Doug Weight, Brendan Shanahan....

One isn't "born" successful or elite - One works at it, every moment of every day of their professional lives.

Any less? And one suffers a petulant and undisciplined and inconsistent team: The current Buffalo Sabres (and their dishwater incarnations of previous seasons.)

I think it's a coaches obligation to demand more from his players, and dish out punishment and outrage when they don't give their best effort. It's called coaching. This isn't a men's league, where players can drift around and then have beers afterward. It's professional hockey at its highest level, and players are given millions of dollars worth of reasons to get fat and lazy if permitted to loaf.

Self motivation wanes at every level, including the NHL, when coaches don't do their part to motivate players with both positive AND negative reinforcement. Players need to understand there are repercussions for their actions.
