Courtesy of Bucky Gleason & the Buffalo News:

Gleason: Time has come for 'Big Easy' Myers

"Myers had a bad giveaway last weekend against Carolina, but he came with back with three assists in a 5-1 victory. The Big Easy responded with a plus-4 rating over his next two games. He had a blunder Saturday, but you wondered if the miscue even registered before he assisted on Buffalo's only goal.

Myers entered the game Saturday with three goals and 14 points, putting him on pace for 10 goals and 45 points this season. The Sabres haven't had a defenseman with 10 goals and 45 points in the same season since Alexei Zhitnik in 1997-98. Thomas Vanek finished with 48 points in his rookie year.

Saturday marked the 20th straight game in which Myers, who leads the Sabres in ice time, played more than 20 minutes.

Twist the numbers any way you please. The Sabres have never had a defenseman with his size and ability, and he could be a franchise cornerstone for 15 years."

Get mean, Tyler - It could be the only thing you're missing...

Myers could be one of the best D men in the league if he would check a guy when he needs too and if he stopped trying to be pretty every 10 seconds. He is a great D man. Riddled with potential.

awesome article....i loved at the end of it how it refered to tyler getting bigger and more physical on "tyler's time"....

as long as he continues to develope, i really want the sabres to sign him to a long long terrm deal....like 10+ years.....

the sky is the limit for him...not telling how good he could get....HOF ? it wouldn't surprise me

Tyler Myers - Future captain of the Buffalo Sabres, and future Norris Trophy Winner

Manning the machine gun on the Tyler Myers Bandwagon - just in case any teams have an idea of prying him away from us (3 GM's shot already)

Connolly/Roy - 2 goals in the last 47 playoff games

He'll get mean when he gets bigger.

He still is a smaller size guy compared to Chara and Pronger, even some guy 5 inches shorter than him weigh close to his weight. Give him a year under his belt before he gets meaner. 82 games will do wonders for him this year and he will only get better, meaner, and stronger.

Skyline has it right. Not only will he have more weight to throw around in a few years, but he'll also have the confidence of experience.

I don't like it really. Nothing that has been said fits in my eyes.

I'm starting to get scared that playing with our team, as it stands right now, is going to turn Tyler away from being physical. Without Goose and Grier none of our team hits. That means he might not develop that mentallity when he gets bigger.
Hopefully he turns into a hitting machine when he builds confidence and muscle mass,
but right now it looks like he'd rather use the long reach and make pretty plays.

Haha I can't believe I just half complained about a 19 year old who is our best defensman this year.

Either way, Tyler will be great. If he is that big mean, physical dude, I'm stoked. If he is an offensive juggernaut and uses his size and reach in the defensive zone, I'm psyched.
Hopefully he meshes these two styles and becomes one of the best defensman in NHL history. At 19 years old he has all the potential in the world.

Everything Bucky said is true, he is on pace for a 19 year old D-man rookie to eclipse most others that have recently started with the team. I love it when "Big Easy" carries the puck on the rush and into the zone. He is successfully doing what all of our top 6 guys fail to do a majority of the time.

This kid is something really special and he is only going to get better and better with age.

He's doing what a offensive defesnemen is suppose to do, carry the puck up the ice and when he breaks into the zone either pass to a forward or rush to the net.

Our Top 6 can break into the zone against most teams with ease, it's keeping offensive pressure on which is suspect sometimes.

After the WJC, didn't he have 15 points in 16 playoff games?

22 points in 20 playoff games? Lemme go look, but I know he had 20 points or more...

Aha, I had it backwards - 20 points in 22 playoff games last season.

Someone on hfboards said that he's less Chara and more JayBo (but with way more upside), and I totally agree.

Sign him to a fifteen-year contract in the offseason. I don't even care.

Can't, would need to wait one more year. This is the start of his three-year entry-level contract.
