Just read Hamilton's pregame report on WGR. I was surprised to read that Connolly avoided the faceoff question and seemed to get pissed off about it.

Quote:
Now to the topic of Tim Connolly and face offs. First off you'll hear all of Connolly's comments tonight on the pregame with Brian Koziol. I've been trying to figure out for awhile why number 19 has all but abandoned the faceoff circle. He has been bothered by a sore hip this week, but he says that has zero to do with it. Connolly said, "I'll let you guys try to figure that out. You guys can keep writing the stories and making things up so I'll stick with that. You guys, it's what ever you want to relate to it, that's fine. I don't know, it's just something we discussed with my line mates, get different looks and different plays off the faceoffs in things we want to do. I can't announce if I want to do a certain play off a faceoff, what I'm going to do so, if I want to take faceoffs I'll take 'em, if not, somebody else will." OK, if Connolly wants me to speculate and not give me the facts when I ask him directly I will. First, let me lay out some facts. Connolly is 43 percent on faceoffs. To put that into perspective Jason Pominville is 45.9 percent. Here's another fact, Paul Gaustad stays out and takes faceoffs with many of his teammates after practice. I have never once seen Connolly work on draws. He works hard as practice is going on, but he's usually the first player off the ice as others work on their games. Here's another fact, Lindy Ruff has given him the freedom not to take draws whenever he wants. In my opinion has he quit on draws because his confidence in that part of the games is shot. He's so far gone he'd rather others take draws because he feels it's better for him and the team. He feels others have a better chance to win it. He's so far gone he doesn't feel practicing it would do any good. I would rather tell you with certainty what's up here, but Connolly would rather we figure it out. Anytime he'd like to lay the facts out there, you all will be the first to know.

Speculation aside, I don't mind multiple people taking draws. I think it makes it more difficult on the opposing centers to know what to expect.

Not only that, but this team has gotten so good at recovering from losing draws, it's almost been beneficial.

ALMOST. That's only if we can start winning those draws on a regular basis, and knowing how to recover just in case we don't.

I agree with Irony, Tim Connolly is naturally a play making wing if you ask me. He's got great vision, and does pretty well along the side boards; maybe he and Ennis with Stafford or MacArthur could be an option, but that would require us to relieve a forward of normal playing time, and I can't think of a forward on our top two lines that's really played themselves out of a job.

Bingo, or move Connolly for a gritty, top 6 center who can score (if he stays healthy to the deadline this might be a possibility). We have enough playmakers and not enough finishers.

Hamilton is right, and Connolly is acting like a complete douche. What bothers me most is that nouveau riche Timmy is the first one off the ice after practice while guys like Gaustad stay extra to work on their game.

That is exactly what I was thinking. First one off the ice...that pisses me off. He should be working on his powerplay skills. Roy too. They both force passes and lost they pucks on dekes. It's the hard-workers that really make up a team and Gaustad is one of the prime examples in the NHL.

Fuck Hamilton.

Does he know that Timmy is first off the ice because he's being lazy, or if there are directives by team doctors regarding his practice icetime?

HE DOESN'T KNOW SHIT.

Now, if Timmy is being lazy, then by all means, call the guy out. But Hamilton doesn't have all his facts, and he won't bother to get them because he's a talentless hack.

Hamilton Video Exclusive: Timmy "prima donna" Connolly leaving the ice first, and snorting crack in the locker room after practice! SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT!

Truth Squanto, not to mention how many times have you read this year that Timmy has left practice early with "soreness" sounds like Connolly is playing through a nagging injury, like a hip flexor, or abdominal pull.

Those are the type of injuries that are aggrivated all the time by playing hockey; and never really heal until you sit out. It's not like Tim Connolly shows up to camp out of shape, or is lazy all summer. He's in Amherst all summer working out and training at the Pepsi Center, ask anyone who works there, they've seen him.

There are lots of things we don't know as fans, so all we can go on is assumptions. And you know what they say about people who assume...

Paul Hamilton sounds like such a jackass in that write up. He's acting as if he's entitled to know everything that's going on with a player or the team as a whole. If Connolly doesn't feel like addressing it to the media, he doesn't have to...no need for the snarky write up, Paul.

Gaustad's return will boost out faceoff wins, to state the obvious.

Tim as a winger? Mmm; has proven a bit brittle to go with that idea.

Not sure what you mean by this, isn't he a little brittle to be a center too?

The question is...which injury is worse...? Getting lightly tapped into the boards, or lightly tapped at center ice?
