NEW YORK -- Rookie Nathan Gerbe, who has a goal and assist during his two games with the Sabres, will not get a chance to play his third tonight against the New York Rangers.

"He played very well, but he's nursing a bit of a groin now that is probably going to keep him out of the lineup tonight," coach Lindy Ruff said after the morning skate in Madison Square Garden.

The absence of the left winger leaves a hole in the forward ranks, and it may be close to the 7 p.m. start before it's clear who will fill it.

Mike Grier, who has missed three games due to the death of his mother, is expected to rejoin the team today but will not play. Ruff could use defenseman Nathan Paetsch at forward, and the coach added the team could recall a forward from Portland. The Sabres' minor-league team played Friday night in Hartford, Conn., and plays tonight in Springfield, Mass.

"We'll see come game time about Nathan," Ruff said. "We're in that process right now [of trying to call someone up], so we'll see."

Who do you think will get the call? Ennis?

Definitely Ennis.

This is assuming that Gerbe won't be able to go. It's not definite yet.

Mancari is lazy. Ennis isn't. Ennis also has a more accurate shot. Mancari has a hard shot, but just wont use it. Because he is lazy.

So, you don't think that Grier will come to the rescue? Perhaps it would help him to feel better if he could get back out on the ice & forget his sorrow for a while. Just speculating...

I hope for Ennis, but don't forget about Mancari. He was pretty much a lock for the Sabres line-up, until we signed Grier.

Not that I want him to come up. I would much rather have Ennis up here. It was just my perception. Every line thread had him on the third line with Gaustad on the RW...until we signed Grier.

In all fairness I saw a few line threads that had guys like Ellis and Kaleta on the top two lines too...if we call anyone up it will be Ennis or McCormick.

Mancari; eh? What are the odds he'll play his ass off, and look good for one game?

What are the odds if he gets more than two or three games (a big if) he'll float back into obscurity.....

Maybe playing Mancari is just a way to keep the competition at forward hot.

But seriously, wh not bring Ennis back?

ooohhh....called it...even though I wanna see Ennis to see if that goal was a fluke or not.
I agree with what was posted above about us not being big enough up front with Gaustad and Grier out.
I would like for us to keep doing this though, even without injuries. Have Kennedy, Ennis, Gerbe, Weber, and Mccormick all swapping. We would always have them buzzing everywhere. You know how good they play when they know they only have a couple games to make an impression.

Mancari is an interesting choice. We all know what he is, a big body with a hell of a shot. He has been producing in the AHL and obviously has something to prove so if he can't play an inspired hard working game under these circumstances it will probably be his last NHL game. Here's to hoping that he tears it up tonight.
