This is mostly an idle question... Now that we no longer have Peters as our designated Big Guy Fighter, who's the guy? Who gets sent out when someone does something outrageous to the Sabres? I understand that we have our share of tough/gritty players now on the team. I understand little spur of the moment fighting between players. But what do the Sabres do if some dinosaur (Laraque-ish) is sent out to cause trouble? Do we have a player that won't get instantly destroyed in such a fight? I know that Rivet has fought, as well as Goose. And we all count on Grier (rightly?). However, Rivet was said not too long ago to have bad shoulders and Goose is still not playing. Is Mair good enough or big enough? Remember, I someone who stands a fighting chance! (sorry about that one... |

We brought in Montador to be our designated tough guy, we just got lucky in the fact that he has a good defensive game as well. |

Yeah I've been pleasantly surprised with Monty. Yeah he can look slow sometimes and make some pretty idiot mistakes, but he is a good physical and vetran presence on the blue line. |

I don't know if we have anyone to tangle with the biggest of the big. But I don't think that's going to be too much of a problem. Remember the Ottawa brawl? "Go out and run 'em." They don't have to necessarily get back at the perpetrator for the most grievous offenses. They can run the other team's skill guys right back to send a message. That being said, if it's just some scuffling in Miller's crease or something, they'll deal with it by committee. And honestly, without some kind of enforcer who can actually play the game as well, this is the way it should be done. Ham |

I'm cool with what we have. As nice as it is to have a pure enforcer like Peters who gets the same amount of points each season as he gets minutes of ice time each night, I'll gladly give that spot to a Kaleta or Goose type. Would love another Ottawa brawl tonight, sans the injury to one of our guys though. |

Stafford was the first to go after Neil on the Drury hit. I know. And didn't he fight Kovalchuk last year? I know he fought someone on the Thrashers. But to say he's "the guy" who we send out for a fight. Come on, now. |

When a situation really came up, how many times was it actually Peters answering the bell? 99% of Peters' fights were staged. Ham |

Montador will throw down, but with him it's a matter of failing miserably or not. His enthusiasm is overshadowed by his lack of pugilistic prowess. |

Mair Gaustad Montador Rivet Grier Stafford Kaleta Hecht Butler Ellis ...choose your flavor. Personally? I'ma wait for Myers' first fight. He flips out on someone, and man do I want to see it. A nice hot, angry, crank-open-the-gates-of-hell fight. One of those "drop the guy on the second punch, and shatter his cheek-bone in the process". Preferably against Riley Cote or Coulton Orr or Danny Carcillo - Especially Carcillo. RJ: "Ohhhhhhhh....And the Big Easy wasn't so easy on HIM - Carcillo's gone STRRRRRRRRRRAIGHT to the locker-room, holding a bloody towel to the left side of his face. Myers just FLATTENED him; knocked him about like a rag doll..." Harry: "...should have left the giant to sleep..." RJ: "...you can say that again...*chuckle*..." Harry: "...should have left the giant to sleep. It was worth repeating...heh heh heh..." (They both laugh at the lame joke.) ...hey. One can dream. Right? |

So if we have no Big Guy to field, then no one else's Big Guy will challenge us? Is that the notion? I could live with that! Another idle question though, is there any one/team rotten enough to ignore that little lack on Buffalo's part and place a challenge knowing we have no one in that weight class? |

...another team could still send out a Laraque or a Brashear, to cheap-shot Mair or Gaustad or Rivet....But, the entire line might get jumped by whatever Sabres are on the ice, at the time. More likely you see them send out Lapierre or Neil or some other little douche, to board someone and pick a brawl. The "Enforcer" role is fading, because the cap keeps squeezing at payroll - No team can afford a true non-performing goon anymore. BTW - Glad we don't have to face Boogaard too often. He's in another league, pretty much. |

Whenever I think 'goon' on our team, the first one that comes to mind is Mair. Even when Peters was here, I still would have rather watched Mair fight. Peters was a fag. |
