I scanned through the goals columns of all the teams in the NHL and found out that both Buffalo and Los Angeles have nine 8-goal scorers on their rosters, which is good for tops in the NHL.

'Membah when we had seven (or was it eight? :? ) 20+ goal-scorers, and four 30+ goal-scorers?

What was that team even on?

The point he is making is that both teams are having more success than last year because of balanced scoring. Basically, it is harder to shut down a team that can score with a lot of players. Granted, the Kings have slid a bit recently, but the Sabres are still holding steady and even increasing their conference position because of the balanced scoring.

Which would be fine if 8x9 scorers =top 10 in scoring in the NHL, but it don't. This is just funny math, albeit it is an interesting stat. The Kings are 9th, and we're 15th in scoring. Unless you're a team rolling 4, and you still have elite scoring, this stat is a red herring. I would ideally want 6 forwards scoring a lot, and 3 scoring sometimes, whilst the other 3 don't give any away.

Being Balanced helps quite a bit, because a lot of the time the other team's top line can run with our top line and contain them, but when we start throwing out able 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lines it adds more fuel to our fire. Having 4 lines that could score at any moment is a huge threat.
I think the main reason that the line of Mair Connolly and Hecht worked so well is because you got three different types of players there. Mair creates room and energy, Connolly NEEDS that room because he loves to work the stick and make plays, and Hecht is pretty sound defensively and he has been fairly good on the forecheck lately and been getting the ugly goals in front.

This is the end all be all of arguments for the Sabres making any drastic moves....

Steer the course, and find guys that fit the system, rather than change everything for a few guys

That's pretty much what I was getting at. I'll use the Washington game we won as an example. We were successful in shutting down the line of Ovechkin-Backstrom-Semin. As a result, Ovechkin got frustrated and was unable to put the puck in the net. No one else scored and we won 3-0 with goals from Tallinder, Gerbe, and Montador. Three guys who I didn't even think would have scored in that game, so what do you think the Capitals thought? However, in the next Washington game, we allowed Ovechkin's line to get going early and they got a goal almost immediately, which gives both that line and the team a confidence boost. That allowed them to trample us. When you're able to roll four lines that can get goals, the other team can struggle to find an answer.

Ow; make we have to think! :D (I'm almost positive these are the guys)

Thirty goal scorers;
-Rene Robert
-Rick Martin
-Gil Perreault
-Don Luce
-Danny Gare

Twenty Goal Scorers;
-Craig Ramsay
-Jim Lorentz
-Peter McNabb

I think Fred Stanfield might have had twenty as well, but he picked up some of those goals with Minnisota, so he doesn't really count......

:D

Seems I even got the two (twenty and thirty) mixed up, in terms of number. :lol: Just didn't want to go overboard.
