Another Mair scenario. Not much to ponder, I doubt.

Hopefully he gets assigned to Portland, he is kind of useless. Maybe someone like Weber or Gragnani takes his place.

Interesting.

I think someone in the NHL will scoop him up.

What's his contract? I'd rather have him playing than mair, whom I think is overpaid, even at his low salary.

Paetsch makes $850k which is a little less than $100k more than Mair.

Interesting. So given the amount of time Paetch plays he's a waste of money. I would still rather have him at 850k than mair at 750k-ish.

But what would be the reason for waiving him?

Why not try and trade him for a high round pick rather than just give him up for nothing.

Paetsch would not fetch a high round pick.

Er, low. Like a 5th. I'm sure there is team out there having defensive trouble and would like to have a cheap, experienced 6 or 7 dman.

Say if he is picked up is his cap hit cut in half or is his salary?

In this situation, if Nathan is claimed, his entire salary and cap hit goes with him to his new team. The Sabres would be on the hook for nothing.

If a player is on the NHL team and exposed to waivers (such as Paetsch), and that player is picked up, the team that picked him up takes his entire salary and cap hit from that point forward.

If a player is on an AHL team and is subject to re-entry waivers, and that player is picked up, the new and old teams split the salary and cap hit from that point forward.

Not much room or use for him. He hustles, but we have guys that do that already. I'd rather have Weber as a fill in D-man, and Gerbe or Ennis as a fill in forward.

Can't we trade him to the Rags for one of their prospects that's playing in the under twenty tournament   :D :D

To save money(same as Mair). We so often forget this is a business first. BTG hates wasting money as much as the next guy.
