So as we all know Hank and Loods' contracts expire at the end of this season. Since Tallinder has played so well with Myers I would think that he gets re-signed. What is everyone thoughts on what he'll get.
My guess is a 2 year contract worth around 5 - 5.5.

It's an interesting question.

One could say that Hank's play this year is a result of playing with Myers. You could also argue that he's in the contract year bump too.

I'm not sure what they do. If either will resign sub $4m for a couple years, I'd take it, but I don't expect it.

I really can't decide where this one might go.

that's a tough one after hank took last year off....he does look good this year.....good defense, somewhat physical, gets pucks out of our end well with through skating or passing...pairs well w/ the Big Easy...hmmm....

i am not sure, but since he took last year off i would be more towards getting rid of him somehow, how do you know he won't go back to being lazy after signing a new contract ?

i wish they could put ***lazy stipulations*** in contracts

Lets give any of these punks who only shows up for contract years one year extensions, nothing more. If they absolutely need the motivation of playing for their paycheck, then they simply cant be trusted to BRING IT over the course of multiple years.

5 to 5.5M total or per year?

My guess is that he'll want a raise over what he's making now and the Sabres won't bite.

But, you never know.

If he can be had for a reasonable price, I say extend him. The guy was money just outta the lockout, probably our best defender. He had a bad couple of years, but I think it was a mental thing from the injuries. He seems to have righted the ship, so to speak. And I don't think it's all because he's paired with Myers. I don't think people give Hank enough credit.

That being said, I don't think they can shell out big money for him. He's not the offensive force of that pairing, so he's a little more one-dimensional. That doesn't necessitate a big contract.

Tallinder will want a contract of around 3-5 years, at about 3 mil per season. Even if the Sabres could fit that in, I doubt they'll want to re-sign him. He's now getting up in age (over 30 now), Buffalo needs to chop some cap hit, and they also need a d-man that can play the point on the PP.

Tallinder is playing better, and I doubt it's only because of a contract year or only because he's playing with Myers. But Tallinder still isn't worth over what he's making now, and he's not exactly what the team needs over the next several years either.

If Buffalo is going to re-sign RFAs like Kennedy and Kaleta (for sure) and MacArthur (maybe) they will need some space by letting Mair, Paetsch, Lydman, and probably Tallinder walk. Then there is still the decisions on re-signing UFAs Grier, Ellis, and Lalime. These players may not require a big raise, but their salaries certainly won't go down. I also doubt Golisano will want to stay right under the cap limit anyway.

Myers appears to be able to do anything, including the point on the PP, but he's not a natural there. I don't see much promise in any other d-men to be a true quality point man though. If Darcy can figure out about the possibility of signing Seidenberg I'd go that route. He's younger and cheaper than Tallinder, and a quality point man. If he won't be available during the summer than re-signing Tallinder may be a necessity, because only Weber is ready to join the team next season (replacing Lydman).

As good as Myers has been, he doesn't cushion hank's butt when he gets knocked to the ground while making a play, or protect his arm from bruising when he goes shoulder to shoulder with someone along the boards.

Hank deserves a lot of credit.

Sign him to a one year deal at the end of the season.. After next season, sign him to another one year deal.. He's putting out some great effort in his CONTRACT YEAR..
