The NHL writer for Yahoo! Sports, Ross McKeon, took a dig at the Sabres in his latest column.

"Buffalo and New Jersey have splashy records in the East, but no way do they hold up through even three rounds of the playoffs."

Taking a look around the league

Ross McKeon covered the Sharks for 17 years with the San Francisco Chronicle and San Francisco Examiner, and refers to them as "the class of not only the West but of the league."

Sounds like he has sour grapes that the eastern conference teams are much mroe likable, marketable and popular than anyone out west.

It's not like Chicago, San Jose, Calgary or Colorado don't have glaring weaknesses either.

It would really be nice to beat the Sharks Saturday night, since we have already beaten Chicago this year.

Nobody cares about San Jose anymore. They're just going to crap out in the first round anyways.

Indeed.

San Jose recent playoff history...

2005-2006: Lost in Conference Semifinals, 2-4 (Oilers)
2006-2007: Lost in Conference Semifinals, 2-4 (Red Wings)
2007-2008: Lost in Conference Semifinals, 2-4 (Stars)
2008-2009: Lost in Conference Quarterfinals, 2-4 (Ducks)

From this record I would say that it is the Sharks who put together the "splashy records" during the regular season and then float belly up come the playoffs.

He also wants to keep New Jersey, Washington, and Detroit under the radar too.

Ya, that Devils team has sucked for years and hasn't won anything.

And we really suck too.

I guess nhl.com has the standings upside down. Someone should fix that.

What a dope.

Wait, he covered the Sharks, and he's taking shots at other teams chances in the playoffs? God, that's rich.

the one thing he is right about is how brutal this schedule is though, and the blowouts are probably going to come more rampart.

But bashing teams in the playoffs while his team hasn't gotten very close to anything the last 5 years they've made it.

So 3 teams out of the 16 teams that make the playoffs have a 'legitimate chance' in this guy's opinion?

I think there's a legitimate chance this guy is a knob.

Although I discount the artice, It would be foolish of me to discount the Sharks due to past records. The Sharks are for real, very for real. Thier top line is a true power house type line and I actually envy the Sharks for putting together that talent. Thier record currently indicates they are the class of the NHL, but that record means squat when the playoffs begin.

As for the Sabres, we shall see where the team goes in the playoffs, all indications are they have just as much of chance as the next team. But I also have some concerns with our beloved team.

Ummmm. :?

I really don't know what to say to that.

Dissecting the team's stats, they're built for the playoffs as opposed to the regular season... Uh.
