Anyone else think there's more to this story than we're being told?

Sabre fans may have noticed that Mike Robitaille was not on the team's most recent game broadcast. The Sabres released the following information:

"Mike Robitaille will be absent from the Sabres broadcast team until after the Olympic break because he was in a minor car accident on Wednesday evening. In his absence, Rob Ray will replace Mike and work with Kevin Sylvester during the intermissions and after games. Mike is doing well and everybody in the Sabres organization wishes him a quick recovery."

Mike will also miss a few appearences on WGR 550. He joins the Howard Simon show for 'Roby Radio' the morning after every game. The entire WGR 550 staff is pulling for Roby to get better soon.

Wow, Hopefully Robie bounces back ok. It'll be interesting to see Rayzor working with kevin, but I do enjoy Robies drunken rants

Question is, who will take part in the "Whip" now? Harry and Rob knock it out on their own? Or do they include RJ with it?

"minor" car accidents don't involve injuries.

My money is on DWI, hit a tree or parked car or something.

I wouldn't be surprised if he walked away without a violation.

Roby is way more sober now than he used to be.

I hope he's alright regardless.

Or, he's in rehab after hitting that object. A "minor accident" doesn't keep you from your job, or require "get well soon" wishes..

in a slightly related note, how true are the rumours that RJ announces the game "sauced?" i always heard he was drunk when calling games, or least had done some drinking.

He's said repeatedly on the air this year that he quit drinking, and I can't say he's sounded much different.

I wouldn't say it hasn't happened before, but I don't think with regularity.

Hey, that's the way we roll in Buffalo. I don't believe anywhere in the world has more drinkers per capita than WNY, and I'm damn proud to be counted among them!

Definitely true. My dad used to do the broadcasts with RJ and Jim Lorentz back in the 70s and 80s and he said RJ sure knew how to pound them. Granted, that was years ago...not sure if he's still that way.
