As much as the Sabres' playoff appearance is pretty much a lock, their chances of going deep are of concern.

If you saw the Caps and Penz go at it earlier today, it would send a chill down your spine. I cannot see the Sabres having much chance against either of these teams in a best-of-7. While the boyz may win a game against them here or there, a best-of-7 is a different animal.

I don't believe the Sabres will ever have a chance at a cup as long as there is no go-to player. Great teams have that go-to guy (or maybe even more than one). As great as Miller is, the goalie cannot be the go-to guy. As much as great D is important in the post season, you've also got to have serious snipers. And speaking of Miller, if he gets burned out or in some way compromised by the extra Olympic duty, I cannot imagine where the Sabres wll find themselves come April.

As long as Regeir continues to "plan for the future", we'll never have a cup "now". Problem is, it's always "now" and the future is always later. Hey Darcy, who's to say the "future" will be any kinder? There are way too many variables that can derail future plans, so when the window of opportunity opens a bit, you have to jump on it! GO FOR IT NOW!!!

After hearing his arrogant post-Kovie chatter, I almost want to see the Devils win the cup as an F-You to Darcy and his constant "master plan".

We have a puncher's chance when Miller is 100%. Sadly, he has yet again been overplayed this season, as in decline. This needs to be corrected asap.

Montreal's last Stanley Cup winning side, with Patrick Roy in goal, and no impact skaters, was also given no chance.

I wouldn't put my money on The Sabres making a deep playoff run; but a return to form by Miller would go a looooooooooong way towards it being a possibility.

Too early to tell. A team on a hot streak entering the playoffs can be dangerous. Who knows where what position the Sabres (and the rest of the teams in the Eastern Conference) will be come April.

Welcome powerplayer.
All eyes were on the Caps/Pens game. We had a Game Day Thread for it here viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2060

Many would agree our play of late would not come close to the caliber of game witnessed this afternoon.

Other than that, have a look around. Lots of threads echoing your comments.

True, it is all about trends. If the playoffs started tomorrow, the Sabres would be one of the least likely to succeed based on the last 10 games, while Ottawa, Washington and even Carolina would do better. The Sabres will likely rebound and start playing better shortly, HOWEVER, Miller's ability to bounce back is a major factor in all this.

In all fairness, PP, to not consider the Devils a contender for the cup each season can be viewed as an over sight. IMO, I think before the deal with the Thrashers you could still consider this team for the cup. With all the subtractions they've had since their last win in 2003, you can never count this team out. They, just as we have in recent times, have seen some hiccups this season but when you have a GM like Lou Lamorello who keeps the talent pool nice and stocked, the odds usually tip in your favor.

With Marty possibly coming on the end of his career, I think this is Lou's way of trying to win it all (by getting Kovi) so he can possibly send Brodeur out in style. Not saying or implying Marty should or will retire this season, but if I've done everything there is to do in hockey championship/personal accolades wise, to go out on top is a no brainer.

As for our boys, well, it's a crap shoot really. I think as many have said on here, the Olympic break isn't going to come soon enough. Once the break is over and we see how our team is holding up in regards to the injury front and what other teams are buyers and sellers, the picture may become a little clearer. So like most everything, we'll have to wait and see.

On that note, welcome to the boards! :D Drop by ETC’s Pub for a drink!

Ummm the regular season doesn't mean anything in the playoffs.

The Sharks won the Prez trophy and got eliminated last year in the first round.

Heck last year we won all four meetings against the Penguins in the regular season.

It does when you don't make the playoffs...

Just a joke, your post is exactly what another poster has been harping on lately (and maybe just a little too much). Nothing against you.

Well not really then, because you aren't there to play any games.

The Penguins have looked like the Sabres do right now at times this season, and vice versa.

I don't like comparing teams like that. It's not a fair assessment.

The Penguins were in a 7 game losing streak earlier in the year were they not?

Or something over 5 games.

Honestly, it depends on what we do at the deadline. If we some how grab a solid 2nd pairing D man/PP QB, and a 1st line RW type player (Ponikarovski or someone of that caliber) we could do well. If we don't get those kinda players, 2nd round exit. Depending on Miller's health, and the play of Thomas Vanek. Those two guys are the guys that stir the drink that is the Sabres-colada (had to come up with a fufu drink)

I think the Sabres will be just fine.

It's not pretty watch right now. It pisses me off and drives me crazy when they lose. But I think Darcy will make a decent trade or two (!!) and they'll go on a roll down the stretch.

Time will tell.

Deals made at 9 out of the past 10 deadlines.

They haven't been earth shattering, but you never know when the right opportunity is going to come along either.
