Had some good seats, section 102, row 4 in what I have dubbed the Richard Zhednik Memorial Decapitation corner (thank god he came out of that alright).

Looked like the boys did their homework for tonight's game. San Jose tried the same breakout pass three times in the first and Thomas Vanek was there to pick it off twice, and Pominville once for good chances.

Mike Grier is a great man. On the Sharks second pp, I don't think he ever left the ice. On the third, he sniffed out and broke up at least two zone entries the sharks had successfully used the previous pp.

Kent Huskins, his third of the season, assisted by number 34, Chris Butler.

Aside from that and the Rivet giveaway, great all around defensive game. The sharks never looked dangerous, and the Heatley line was a -2 on the night.

The stats leave me scratching my head, the Sharks looked like they had way more giveaways than us, not 10 to our 16.

Great to see Lydman get a star. Honestly you could have given one to any defenseman whose first name doesn't start with a C.

It was a fun game. I sat what felt like two rows back from the penalty box. Thought they played an almost complete game. That goal you are blaming on Butler started off with an arid Drew stafford pass that completely missed his target and set up the 3 on 1. it also looked to go right under miller's arm pit. It was a lot of fun to yell out heatley sucks and boo him every time he touched the puck. Vanek's goal kind of reminded me of the afinogenov goal where it looked like no one had control then vanek was there to tap the puck in. Nabokov made some absolutely stellar saves. Miller made his share as well. I thought it was classy that the sabres fans applauded Nabokov's effort, and despite a few that had a had a bit too much to drink where kind to the sharks fans in attendance. a couple really bad giveaways on buffalo's part. that first goal was a momentum drain to san jose who was dominating then gave up that goal. nice too see buffalo use the momentum to their favour.

its a nice win. i didnt see the game, i was at the generals game. proves this team is still good, proves miller is still elite, but we cant get a big dick about it.

3 game point streak though. funny a win turns a bad streak into something SEEMINGLY positive.

They should have lost to force Darcy into thinking about a trade.

How does that NOT make perfect sense?

Great game, other than the aforementioned Rivet and Butler gaffs, and the multiple breakaways allowed. They really need to work on those, but I'm sure they will over the break. Other than winning, the best part of this game for me was not seeing Heatley get any points out of this game. When was the last time that happen? :D

What multiple breakaways?

There was the Butler goal, the 2 on 1 and a half rush roy broke up and a 3 on 2 later in the game.

I was going to ask the same thing.

I think the Sabres only surrendered 2 odd man rushes.

And one was clearly Stafford's fault with that horrible giveaway.

Pretty solid defensive effort for a change last night.

I wish we had a Mike Grier from every team in the league because he clearly knew how to play the sharks.

Multiple can mean 2. I'm sorry if I confused anybody.

Apparently Dan Boyle had some thoughts on last night's game...

(from the Buffalo News)

Boyle not impressed

The Sabres were thrilled to end the pre-Olympic portion of the schedule with a victory.

San Jose defenseman Dan Boyle, however, didn't think the Sabres did much to deserve Saturday's 3-1 decision.

"The game was there for the taking," Boyle told the San Jose Mercury-News. "They didn't play overly hard -- we just didn't have any effort."

exactly what i was thinking. impressed or not, you lost out on two points, and proved, by theory, that the sharks play down to their opponents, which doesnt bode well for april or may. or, it proves that the sabres are ending their slump, and ready to move on. which is it? or is it both?

And Dan Boyle was fucking invisible. It wasn't until third period when goose or someone raped him into the boards ten feet from my face and I was like oh yeah, the sharks have boyle.

So if he wants to question effort, he can start by questioning his own.

Not to Sabresbillsfan. LOL

Then again, bittersweet IS a word.

I'd gladly accept Frolov-Rivet for said loss.

As long as we have someone to shore up that final spot.

Meh, take it with a grain of salt. Sometimes veterans just say crap to make their guys think after a loss. I've never been a huge Boyle fan, but he's good, and I've never seen him be a douche.

If we were playing Janik and fukin Jillson in the playoffs, then we'll be ok with Patches or Suckera for now. Realistically, Rivet has been doo-doo anyways. Hard to play worse than him.
