I think it has to be obvious now that Lalime plays a lot better when he has to come in after a poor start. Pitts is an example and tonight, maybe the guy just cant handle the pressure of starting a game. How bout we have miller play 5 min then surprise lalime that hes playing the rest of the game next time Miller needs a rest? Just a thought to have any hope with this guy.

Are you serious...they aren't going to "surprise" Lalime and throw him into the game 5 minutes into it. The man is 35 years old who has been in the NHL for over a decade, if he hasn't gotten over the nerves of starting a game then he never will. Plus I don't think Miller would appreciate a "surprise" like that...

Don't worry, we'd tell miller about it at the start of the game. This was the game we were going to secretly put the plan into motion, but Lindy forgot to pull miller so he got pissed and let in 3 goals.

I just don't think he's good starting every 10 games, and 20 days, or so. He's shown he's better when he gets some starts, like his town down in Portland.

I think that when he gets called on to replace Miller during a game, he realizes the importance of him showing up. It's not the nerves that make him play the way he does.

Being a backup goalie can be a tough position, but I mean, Lalime isn't the only backup goalie in the NHL whose starts are few and far between... I feel bad because he tries so hard, but we just aren't getting any results with him.

i had little faith when he came into the game but he shocked me. we still lost, because the top six did shit while the third and 4th liners played. one goal allowed for lalime is respectable.

There has been enough times he doesn't look like a bad backup anyways. Sometimes he even makes you think he's competent. It's a tough call. The guy needs more minutes(be it starts or whatever) to stay sharp, but that's the same for everyone. I think Koz is just saying it's one of those fluke things that when he starts he loses, but when it's 'save the day' time, he performs.

Koz does have a point that Lalime does seem to play better when he relieves Miller, which is very curious. I just don't think it's realistic to think that Ruff is going to pull Miller in certain games in hopes that Lalime will play better.

This brings up an interesting point. It would seem sometimes teams with a killer duo(Fuhr/Ranford) might try to confuse the opposition by declaring a starting goalie, and then changing him shortly after face-off. Maybe the NHL says something to the franchise that interrupts games 5 minutes in?? Seems like it would be a legitimate tactic to always keep the opposition guessing. Doesn't it?
