Two assists in seven games...swell. It was nice that Darcy got something for Paetsch, but I'd rather he kept the draft pick to flip later on for a player that will stick around. I guess as long as he isn't a seive defensively that he's an upgrade from MacArthur though. But really...two assists so far?

Fire Torres.

Edit: sorry after laughing I realized you may be right. Flipping a 2nd every year for a run at the playoffs seems wasteful. Flip that 2nd rounder at the draft ffs.

Jesus Christ, everybody bitches that Darcy doesn't make good moves. He made a move for a guy that can put points up, tied for most goals from people traded on trade day. He had no idea that Torres was gonna shit the biscuit as soon as he came here. Same thing the past 2 years with Moore and Bernier. Take it or leave it, but would you be complaining about this trade if he had 4 goals and 2 assists right now?

These guys were never "Sabres". ...and they never were roster players for long.

Torres has played a physical game and tried to contribute. I think the lack of scoring is reflective of the fact that he hasn't gelled with any one particular line. Lindy has had him playing with Mair and Grier much of the time, and that does not translate into an avalanche of points. However the top two lines are playing too well to really justify splitting them up so it is what it is.

I would not mind seeing Torres with perhaps Gaustad and Kennedy.

That's not the point I'm trying to make. I'm saying that Darcy brings in someone who he thinks will help the team down the stretch. What they do when they're here is up to Ruff, his team, and the player themselves. What does that mean they were never Sabres, anyway?

It means guys that unpacked their suitcase and preferred to play here. Sabres.

No matter what Torres does over the next two months, he won't be around next season. No matter what he does over the next two months, it won't be enough to make the team a Stanley Cup winner. I'm one of the few Darcy supporters around here, but I'd rather he saved the pick and used it in preparation for next season when they should have a better team.

It's all about chemistry and who you play with. sure some guys you can throw out there with any two linemates and they still light it up, but most guys need to acclimate to their new surroundings. Did anyone think Stempniak would have 9 goals in his first 8 games with Phoenix?

Yeah, because he's gonna score a hat trick every game playing with Kaleta and Mair.

What do you expect when the guy is only getting third and fourth line time? Not the formula for getting loads of points. For playing on the third and fourth line he is doing his job. He has been going to the net, fighting for the puck against the walls, and playing with grit. I can't remember what game it was, but it was a recent one where Torres rushed back on the backcheck and ended up sweeping a puck away from a wide open net. I have no problem with Torres right now.

I never liked the Torres pick up. I have stated as such and I'm sure you guys and gals are tired of the Slesh beating up on Darcy (although, he deserves every bit of it).

With this being said, Darcy stated that next season would be a run as well and since he also stated a "build from within" policy has been implemented, Sabres fans cannot expect much in the way of help from outside sources.

Here is What I see next seasons line up looking like, and for the most part, I support it.

Line 1: Vanek - Roy - Stafford
Line 2: Hecht - Connolly - Pomminville
Line 3: Kennedy - Ennis - Mancari/Kassian
Line 4: Gerbe - Gaustad - Kaleta

Mair and Ellis I believe are gone along with Grier, opening up 3 positions, hello Ennis, Gerbe and Mancari and/or Kassian.

Def 1: Myers - Weber
Def 2: Rivet - Butler
Def 3: Sekera - Montador/Gragnani

Weber is coming up for sure. Gragnani also I believe.
Replacements to Lydman and Tallinder who I do not believe will be resigned.

I've wondered should we have tried for stempniak. or if we should consider signing him this off season, i think he was just on a bad team (Phoenix is competing for a top spot in the West). I think we should have signed Orpik (his deal isn't too horrid, and he plays more sound defense) instead of trading for Rivet.

Raffi Torres will not play as he's been bugged by a hand or wrist injury. When asked if Torres arrived from Columbus that way Ruff said, "Ummmm, I'm not going to answer that one right now." That puts Drew Stafford in the line up. Chris Butler replaces Andrej Sekera.

Well the good news on the Torres deal is that, we didn't really give anything up for him. We gave up a 2nd round pick we received in the Bernier trade, and we got Rivet in return for our 2nd pick this year. Granted it's not a huge return, but it's a return.

We have plenty of cap space to sign a big name free agent if need be.

We also have plenty of depth on the farm.

There is no way Pitt would have let Orpik walk, and if we did sign him, we wouldnt have the cap space to have players like Grier, and at least one of our other key role players. Making 3.75M a year; we'd likely be without Goose or Hecht. I couldn't imagine having to field a roster without 2 of Grier, Goose, Hecht; and still be nearly as competitive as we are. Especially considering how excellent our PK has been, and those guys are a big reason why.

We gave up MacArthur.....um...do you think he'd have done ANY better in seven games than 2 assists? Not to mention, Mac's played as a Sabre for a long time and still couldn't put up points. Torres was an upgrade. He plays hard, and as far as I can tell, he shows up every shift. A great upgrade over Mac.
