Okay so as you all know I'm a newb to the Sabres fanbase, my name is Greg, I'm from Pittsburgh, I'm a cable guy, a Gemeni, I'm 37 years old, and yes...I do enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

My first impressions of the Sabres (as an official fan)...pretty cool.

A little sloppy here in the GAWDEN, way too many d-zone blunders but yeah, the score aint bad! :)

GO SABRES!!!

No one's really gonna harp on ya for posting elsewhere, Greg, but the GDT is definitely the best place for game night chat :)

We're looking alright tonight. This is what we bring when we're going - really fast end to end hockey, great goaltending, good defense mixed with good offense.

Well, you are hosting Metal Mayhem, but you also are a possible Steelers fan. I've hated the Steelers longer than you've probably liked them. Maybe we can see past this, but idk.

You know I'm kidding.

Pittsburgh people are similar to Buffalonians, except they live in Pittsburgh(o snap).

Welcome.

It's pretty much programmed into our (Pittsburghers) DNA to love football and the Steelers, among other things. :( But it's getting to the point where I wake up in the morning and wonder how many women are going to be assaulted by Steelers today. :( This team is out of control, I hope they cut Holmes, Roethlisberger, Harrison and anybody else who wants to act the fool. I would rather lose with a team that I respect then watch thugs win.

Ok, enough football I promise. :)

Kinda surprised nobody's asked this yet, but WHY are you an EX Penz fan?

Given that you're from Pittsburgh and so easily turned your back on the team (Cup winner no less), it makes me wonder how quickly you'll drop the Sabres when the goin' gets tough.

On the old forums, he explained that the Crosby bandwagon has caused him to abandon the Pens.

Why should his allegiances be cause for your concern?

"Where else does my allegiance lie if not here."

Sorry I was just watching Lord of the Rings and I found it fitting. :)

Fair question, here's what I said when asked why I'm a Sabres fan now:

Quote:
Well, first let me say why I am now a Sabres fan. It's because they have the most starting American players, a consistent coaching staff, and in this day and age it's really easy to root for any team anywhere in the world. Need fellow fans to share your thoughts with? Done. Need to watch every game they play? Got that too with NHL Center Ice. I have to admit, I don't know a great many details about the Sabres this season but as a hardcore hockey fan I have always kept an eye on them.

I've been a Pens fan for 23 years, but I've grown disenchanted. I don't want to bash them because the bottom line is that franchise has provided me with a fun healthy diversion from everyday life. And I'll always have found memories. I'm changing teams now because they have everything going for them for once. A great team, good trustworthy owners, a new rink, and a bright future. So, it doesn't feel like I'm being a fair weather fan at all, because I'm not. In fact, on paper I don't think the Sabres or many other teams have much of a chance vs. the Pens in a best of seven.

I'm gonna root against them because I need a change. I am a little tired of all the talk around here being how so many great players in the league are not named Sidney Crosby. I like Malkin, Ovechkin, and many other players, as well as the game itself! But mostly all you hear about around here is Sid. I'm not switching just because of Crosby, in fact I'm still a big fan of his game and he is just such a classy person off the ice. A lot of fans I suspect don't realize what a good person he is for the community, he's not a brat off the ice like he appears to be on it sometimes. I just need my NHL fan batteries recharged. The olympics got me thinking about what hockey means to me and what's important to me. US hockey means more to me then the city I live in.

I could go on and on about the switch but it's too much to type all at once.

If you guys need to know anything about the Pens from power play tendencies to off ice issues just ask! I consider myself a know it all about the Penguins.

How quick will I be to bail on the Sabres? Well, that depends. First of all I've been disenchanted with the Penguins for some time now, this isn't a knee jerk reaction to a bad power play or something. Secondly I'm still feeling my way around the team spirit here, so it's not like I can boast undying loyalty at this point. Here are a couple of things that would put an immediate strain on my loyalty to the Sabres. 1. They don't show up in the playoffs. I don't care if they lose in the second round, what matters is that they play their game they way they want to dictate it and every player makes the appropriate sacrifices that a Stanley Cup champion demands. So like if Lydman is gonna pull a flamingo on a late second shot block I will be pretty upset. And yeah, I notice a lot of the details during the play, after a while I can tell if a player is dogging it, hurt, or just unlucky. Finally, Lindy Ruff. I truly admire the loyalty paid to their coaches it's like a breathe of fresh air. Do you know how many coaches the penguins have been through over the past 14 years? A lot. And when they finally hired one that I liked (Therrien) the players hung him out to dry. He was too abrasive for them, perhaps too demanding, but as a fan I liked his style. So if they stay true to Ruff, I will be more inclined to stay true to the Sabres.
