It is a known statistic that 112% of all playoff games go into overtime. Okay, I made that up, but it's a lot. The games are close. Like, all of them. Unless you're featuring Robert Esche.

Disclaimer: I ignored shootouts for the purpose of this. Because seriously, in three games, who gives a fuck about shootouts? Also, OT losses just count as losses. There are no loser points in the playoffs.

One Goal Game Winning Pct:
1). Ottawa - .714
2). Pittsburgh - .609
3). New Jersey - .593
4). Buffalo - .571
5). Philadelphia - .500
6). Washington - .444
7). Montreal - .419
8). Boston - .333
8). NYR - .333

Now to overtime. But remember, not every regular season ends in overtime. So how good are these teams at ending with an actual goal? The percentage of games either won or lost in OT is in (these thingies).

Overtime Winning Pct.
1). Ottawa - .833 --- (.400) - 7th
2). Montreal - .667 --- (.500) - T3rd
3). Buffalo - .600 --- (.500) - T3rd
4). New Jersey - .500 --- (.267) - 9th
4). Pittsburgh - .500 --- (.500) - T3rd
4). Boston - .500 --- (.308) - 8th
7). Washington - .462 --- (.591) - 1st
8). Philadelphia - .400 --- (.455) - 6th
8). NYR - .125 --- (.571) - 2nd

So what does it all mean? Obviously Buffalo, Montreal, and Ottawa are all dangerous if the game reaches extra time. But Ottawa has shown difficulty in ending the game in extra time. Granted regular season OT is 4 on 4, and that goes for offense as well as defense.

Ironically, Washington isn't near the top in close games----simply becasue perhaps they haven't BEEN in many! They have so dominated the scoring that close games are more of a rarity.

That's good for them...as long as their playoff matchups aren't close games!
