We lost this series for 1 reason and 1 reason only: our penalty kill failed. Don't give me the nonsense about how Connolly was too soft, Vanek was hurt, the PP sucked, we were outmuscled, etc.

The PK was the strength of this team all season, and it failed miserably. Miller gave up juicy rebounds, team failed to cover wide-open nets after the rebound, and absolute/utter failure to clear the puck when the chances were had. The PP sucked all season and nobody expected it would suddenly rise to make a difference in the playoffs. But the PK was the bread and butter all year. We hold one of the worst offensive teams to under 20% on their PP during the season, we win the series, end of story.

The only reliable and consistent strength of this team all year, the PK, failed, and that is why we lose. If the PK plays anywhere close to its average, we're talking about game 1 at home against the Pens.

Depressing.

I don't disagree, but I don't care to go into specifics. We just did.

you gotta give credit where credit is due as well.. rask was very very good. why toronto traded him, i have no idea. it was a great series for goaltending. miller didnt miss a beat either.

it is what it is, but i really think goaltending saved the bruins.

well of course. the bruins played tougher and really, without miller, it woulda been a blow out. but! well, i already said. apparently thinking another goalie is great is a lynch able offense round these parts.

Don't ask me why, but I was perusing the GDT from 3/26, and "fly as hale" posted some eerily ominous words:

Now I know many have said this, but it was just odd how I ran right into that comment within moments of entering the thread.

I agree fully with you but come on the Sabres couldn't score one powerplay goal. In the playoffs you need great goaltending, timely goal scoring and your powerplay has to come thru for you when your team desperately needs it. The Sabres problem is that they have no number 1 line player besides Vanek. Roy is a second line center playing against first line players who are bigger and stronger than he is. Pom's doesn't look like the player he was a few years ago and Connolly well don't get me started about him. He was a total non-factor. Tonights game how in the hell did Krejci gets so wide open on the 3rd goal is beyond me. Roy or Myers should have been in front of the net.

we lost the series because...
-our power play sucked major donkey ass. which is nothing new really.

-our "big names" did almost jack shit. as they said on NHL on the Fly "when Mair and Kaleta are your goal scorers your in trouble"

-Tukka Rask...the man held us and beat us.

we lost game 6 because...
-our defense decided to leave people open in front of the net several times

-our PP was still a joke.

-our "big names" again failed to show up.

-Tuuka Rask saved Bostons ass. if nearly any other goalie was in net we would have won 5-4.

The poor PK was one reason. Certainly it was not the only one.

I disagree, this was not the main reason why we lost. The power play is a bigger reason. All in all our special teams as a whole were disappointing. There's a lot to go into why we lost, but I think the biggest reason is our top 6 guys failing. We have so many players on this team that were together since 05-06, they all know what it takes to win in the playoffs and they failed. It's not like we don't have the talent, and that's what bothers me.

The PK wasn't the #1 issue, IMO.

The PP going 0-fer and not enough top 6 forwards producing offensively were reasons 1 & 1A in my book why the Sabres are getting ready to clean out their lockers today or tomorrow.

That's what lost us this series. Pure and simple. A lackadaisical effort by our top six forwards and half of our defense.

Outplayed, out muscled and under sized.

Nah. Wasn't effort. I saw plenty of that.

It was inexperience and poor execution. But it definitely didn't stem from a lack of trying.
