I heard earlier in the year that this might be RJ's last year. Does anyone know where RJ stands on coming back next year?

oh yeah, super, i'd forgotten about that...thanks for piling on the crap news! :)

If I were RJ, and I was sticking around in hopes of a true SC contender...at this point I'd just retire.

RJ has said one more year every year since the lockout.

Personally, I think he is the most important free agent to retain.

He's said that he could call games forever, that it's just the travel that gets to him.

I'd be SUPER HAPPY if he stayed around only to call home games.

Personally, if it means keeping RJ on board, I proposed the following.

RJ does every home game (41)
He also does every Northeast division away game (12)
And every Atlantic division away game (8)
And Columbus and Detroit away game (0-2)

RJ for 61-63 games a year?

I can handle that.

I would only pressure him for every home game and all playoff games.

RJ for home games and his son, Mark, for away games? That way we still get Rick for half the year, and his son can learn the ropes of calling NHL games.

I think he would have said something over the broadcast about it being his last year....

I wish I could remember who-all subbed for him on his west coast swing "vacation". I *think* the guy I liked best is the PBP guy for Hamilton? Does that ring any bells?

I'd be fine with him just doing home games. Personally, I cannot imagine our goal horn without his voice behind it.

let RJ retire, and ask gary thorne to step in. i actually like gary thorne the most of all hockey announcers, actually of all announcers now that ernie harwell retired.

I think all of California was the home team's feed. The Shark's guys were the best. Randy Hahn is def. in my top 5, he is one of the few left that stays focused on the game. I don't want Gary Thorne, his part in NHL 10 ruined him for me.

bullshit, gary thorne makes nhl 10. his call for stu barns 2001 goal is great. hes the polar opposite of RJ, where RJ is a show all his own, gary lets the game be the show. two different styles.

He might be tainted by Bill Clement too. I'm just not ready to let go of Rick.

Well him and Harry Neale are the two oldest guys and Harry's job is to keep Rick around basically.

They'll keep going with the one more year for a few more years. RJ won't quit on this team.
