Per Bucky's column this morning. http://www.buffalonews.com/2010/04/29/1 ... h-his.html Quote: The Sabres picked up the option year on Lindy Ruff's contract Wednesday, the first and easiest decision management made during the offseason.

Also, LQ just said during this morning's press conference that they're interested in extending Darcy and Ruff past next year if they are willing. EDITS: Darcy willing to bring back Hank and Tony at the right price. Darcy admitted that the Torres trade failed. Lindy : "I want to win a Stanley Cup in Buffalo. That's what keeps me coming back." |

I'm really glad Lindy is coming back, Darcy not so much so. I'm happy that he wants to bring back Hank and Lydman. |

I'm less than impressed with the desire to keep Hank, but Loods was a no brainer. Tallinder, to me, was invisible. Not that he did anything outrageously wrong, but he didn't do anything great, either. |

I feel that's more of a PR move by stating he wants to bring back Hank and Loods. |

Maybe so, but a guy who's pleasantly invisible may still be better than one who is a cause of turmoil- i.e. Butler. I know that a lot of folks here seem to want to ditch either Tallinder or Lydman, but aren't either one of them considerably better than Butler? I guess I am having difficulty with the notion that it's better to keep him than either one of these guys. |

Darcy needs to step up and give Lindy and Miller a team that can win. I've never considered Lindy a problem so I'm glad he's staying. |

I must confess, I am conflicted about bringing back both Tallinder and Lydman. I don't want 2 young kids in the line up so I was hoping 1 of them would get resigned, in my case, I preferred Lydman over Tallinder. I would however, like to see Weber brought up and Butler or Sekera moved to another team this off season. I am glad Ruff is back, but I agree with everyone who stated Darcy is past his time with this team. Connolly I would like to see gone. He has great vision on the ice, but he was so inconsistant, showing up some times and dissappearing others. I have no hate for Connolly, but we need a stud, sniper, skilled center. Roy isn't going anywhere with that contract he has and his numbers are ok, not great, but ok. Vanek and Roy need a RWer with size and skill desperately. Is a trade in the works for a Horton type player? Who knows, but it is abundantly clear Stafford isn't the answer. I would like to see Ennis on the LW with a new Center and Pomminville, who that new center would be, I'll leave the debate to everyone else for that. Just a thought though. Gerbe needs to stay up, put Kennedy on LW and get someone in there at line 3 center with size and better hands than Goose. No offense to Goose, but he is a line 4 center, Grier on his wing and a LWer worth a dam. McCormick? Once again, I'll leave the speculation for everyone else. The back up goalie situation needs to be addressed. Biron? I hope so. Thats my take on it, any thoughts? |

Lindy contract being picked up. i really really want him gone. while he hasnt always had the proper tools hes been playing the exact same game for the last 12 years and it hasnt produced nothing. instead of coaching to the strengths of the players he has, hes coaching his way and trying to have the players fit into that style....a square block doesnt fit the round hole. the sad thing is, as long as Quinn is around, Ruff will never be fired, nor will Regier (who i dont have a problem with). |

I find it interesting that you prefer Regier to Ruff- seems as is most folks here go the other way. I can understand the problem over which way to coach. Do you coach to the players' skills or draft/trade for the coaching system. If we could get the Sabres all moving in the same direction I think it would be awesome! Here's a question- why aren't the existing Sabres all playing to the Coach's system? Are they incapable or unwilling? If they are incapable - don't have the skills- they should go. If they are unwilling...they need to get slapped upside the head and told to toe the line. Put their egos in check and do what their boss says. |

Put their egos in check and do what their boss says. i agree that if we can get the whole sabres organization going in the same direction we would be great. The players arent playing into the Ruffs system because they are incapable. there really isnt anyone on this team that is a "5 tool player". most of the team excels in a couple areas of the game and sucks it up in others. the problem is that Ruff tries to get these players to do things that they dont have the tools for. what this does is make the player look bad on the ice while he tries to do something he cant. this also means that when the player ends up somewhere else, with a system that plays to his tools, he excels. like Max going to Atlanta, or on the flip side, Kovelchuk going to NJ. im a proponent of playing to the players strengths. if you have an offensively gifted teams (like Washington) then you should try to play a more offensively focused game and slack on the defense a bit. if your team is defensively minded, play a defensive game where you would score a goal or two then wait out the clock. |

I don't care what anyone says, I'm glad that Lindy is staying with the team. And you know what...I know it's hard for some fans to trust and believe in our management, but listening to their comments made me feel a little better. I liked what Lindy said about being excited with the group of guys we got. I like that Darcy said he's already thinking of an offseason plan. You know, I don't think Darcy is an incompotent general manager. Yeah, I said it! |

I got distracted Nah but serious, he does one hell of a job, and put together a team that has been effectively successful since the lock out. Granted missing the playoffs for 2 years isn't incredibly successful, but we were in the mix the whole year, both of those years even. Should be an interesting off season. I have a strong feeling, we're going to be seeing atleast 3 or 4 new faces in Sabres uni's next year |
