It's hard to tell where most of these players will be in a few years from now. Bob Mckenzie had 5 of our picks in his top 75 plus honable mention.

I like the pick of Kevin Sundher. Could be a bit of a sleeper pick.

I don't like this draft all that much. Very, very "meh."

Kris Baker thinks he's good, too. And I trust that guy's opinion haha.

NOW, I may be reading into this a little far, BUT...Gregg Sutch lists "Americans don't deserve to play the game at the same time we do" as one of his interests. Either he's a bone-headed douchebag or he's one of those superiority nuts who could be an issue when he takes the ice with his American teammates. Just sayin'

i can't believe we missed out on a chance to land Kabanov in the third round. hell if he fell to us then i don't care the risk at that point the kid is talent. you get his father out of his professional career, you land a potential superstar in the 3rd round. that would've been cool. stupid islanders for ruining my day again. step one regier came from the isles. though i know very little about the guy we picked in the third.

I get to see a ton of Shipley and he's not bad but he's at least 4-5 years away and Sutch is not that great of a forward he can't skate very well.

I'll rate this draft a C- or a D+

EDIT: Its late, I wrote d men for Sutch instead of of forward

Yea, it's cool. I don't like him either. Sundher is a good pick, though. One of Darcy's typical good late picks.

1. Phoenix F'd us by trading their pick to Montreal. I think we would have taken Tinordi. alo we were 2 picks away from Riley Sheehan. I like the Pysyk pick, but sometimes you almost wich the Sabres or Bills would just be bad if their just gonna crap out to end their seasons. I mean how many times were we a pick away from a "Patrick Willis" type player?

2. I just don't get having 3 picks in the third round and not trading up back into the 2nd, unless the talent pool in this past draft had a dip in the mid 2nd round and picked up again in the 3rd.

3. Also no more trades for us at the deadline as the players we get can't seem to pickup our system in time to be any good. Zubrus, Bernier, and now Torres. No trades, unless its for the top guy out there...not Raffi Torres.

Very common thing among some Canadians unfortunately. Canada is unique, but extremely close in geography and culture to the US. The thing that makes Canada most different from the US is Quebec, and, again unfortunately, many anglophone Canadians don't embrace the Quebequois. So they're left with a national identity that basically says "We're not Americans" as their definiing characteristic. That in turn, leads to an inferiority complex for those that define themselves vis-a-vis Americans. Sour grapes in a way, and inferiority complex that leads to soapbox claims of superiority in another way.

Please note that I am stereotyping here, but not the whole country. I'm stereotyping some Canadians.

Oh, I know - my use of the words "superiority nuts" was my basically encompassing your post's points, but before you posted. We're probably all aware of the fact that there are obnoxiously-nationalistic Canadians just like there are a lot of obnoxiously-nationalistic Americans ;)

Well, and to take it a little bit further, hockey is part of the Canadian national identity. So for those Canadians who can't stand living in America's shadow, it probably really bruises their egos to think that somehow Americans could "take over" their sport.

Well, that's a bit crazy. Just like tons of other countries play basketball but no other nation will ever come close to USA, no other country will ever come close to Canada in hockey.

While going over the draft this morning I am absolutely choked that Darcy passed on Jordan Weal when he was still there in the third. Instead he drafted another dman. Weal is a talent and could be a huge steal. If we had him and Ennis together that would be unreal. But whatever Darcy seems to be staying away from the midgets lately.

He put up some good numbers last year...was he on a line with Jordan Eberle?
