IN YOUR OWN THREAD.

Phil specifically said this thread was about the possibility of getting the player, not a Darcy bitch fest.

Sorry not trying to hijack the thread or bitch alot. I agree that Marc Staal or bringing in a quality player would be an upgrade but with this current Management I just don't see it happening. We all want Buffalo to go out and improve the team including myself but I just have no faith in Management.
We can all go out and think about this player or that player would be a nice fit in Buffalo but you have to have management in place that wants to put winning first and foremost. They say it but their not doing anything about it.

wanna know what i really think?

earlier in darcys career, he took some GMs to the cleaners. i mean, he won EVERY deal. i think GMs are now weary of him slightly, because they know he can fleece them in a second.

i also think that to outsiders, buffalo is a tough sell to UFAs.. i know, i know, im not trashing the city, but it always had a negative reputation. just what i think. people who stay in buffalo eventually realize it to be a wonderful city, but its that first impression.

Agreed for the most part. Both Spacek and Rivet said they didn't really want to come to Buffalo (and Spacek came from Edmonton, the only place with a worse reputation than Buffalo), but both of them said they really liked it after spending time there.

I can't disagree with that.

He gets railed on for being too passive; how did aggressive GMs in Toronto and New York make out? He could do better there, but he's not terrible.

He gets railed on for not signing UFAs. The word has been out for years; UFAs DON'T WANT TO COME HERE. Be it residual fallout from the Rigas era, their appearance of being cheap, whatever. They'd have to significantly overpay to get a top tier FA to come here, and I'm glad they don't do it.

I like the Calgary model of trading half the team to Toronto honestly.

Oh I don't know about Buffalo being undesirable for UFA's...not when it's mixed in with places like Columbus, Pittsburgh, Long Island etc.
None of those places exactly turn on the charm.
I don's see a lot of UFA's trying to get a stint with LA or the Florida teams because the cities are nicer or have good weather.

I agree with you on Darcy early in his career that he made some great deals but his methods have become very stale and what he tells the media and fans the last few years is getting very old. Buffalo wouldn't be a tough sell if you had a top run organization that's based on winning. I think alot of players do care about where they play but if you had an organization that's main concern is about winning you might have more free agents that would find Buffalo very attractive.

What I see is a team that is very close to being a serious threat in the playoffs if they could get a few critical pieces. The overall team is strong but seems to lack the one or two players who will rape the opponents plus minus. This is where I think Darcy lacks the commitment and guts to make a big trade happen.

I agree with what irony said in that he used to get great value for trades. He got Warrener for Mike Wilson, Barnes for Matt Barnaby, Dumont and Gilmour for Michael Grosek, etc. Now his trades seem to kind of suck. The only thing I can say in favor of his trades in the last few seasons is that at least he hasn't surrendered much for the crappy returns he's gotten. Picks and bottom tier players for the likes of Moore and Torres. A player who was out the door in Campbell for Bernier and a pick. I don't know if people are careful of trading with Darcy, or just that the market for trades isn't what it used to be in the salary cap era. Either way it is frustrating, but I'm not sure if another GM would have more success.

Buffalo hasn't changed for the worse. UFA's came here before, but for some reason Darcy doesn't WANT any UFA's... It's not like we haven't signed good players before.

Darcy is turning around. IMO he will make one major big name trade. I just worry it's for a dman. I do agree our need is for a scorer, not a defender.

He doesn't strike me as the type of guy that is going to make a move just to satisfy the fan base. More likely he would base his moves or lack-thereof despite the fans input.

Seems like Sabres fans just want change for changes sake. I'm just goign to be patient before offering criticism, and I realize that's easier for me because I haven't been emotionally invested in this team for very long. But if I had some chill pills, I would pass them out.

I agree with you. It could be that I'm not old enough to remember when Darcy was wheeling and dealing or if it's because at the end of the day, it's just a game... That I REALLLLLLLY love. ;)

Sabres Fans want changes so this team can win the cup during our lifetime. 40 years and still no cup. I think that says something about the approach management has had with this club. Yes we have had different owners, GM's, and tons of players and they have been close a couple of times but come on. How many more years do we fans have to wait? A couple of changes and this team could be in contention but Darcy's conservative ways or this management's ways are killing this club. You have a stud on defense to build around and a goalie that's in his prime. The time is now to put the pieces in place. Why not be proactive for once in free agency and I'm not saying go out and get Kovalchuk but come on. Is this organization concerned about winning or just selling out games and making money!

Ewwww yeah I think that they need to make the CORRECT moves not just BIG moves. Kovalchuk, might be the missing piece or he might be a cap burden that ends up wasting Miller and Myers talent. This team is close, it needs experience and toughness on the scoring lines. I understand the desire to win and the need to put pressure on management but I haven't sense anything about their MGMT that suggest that they are not already fully aware of what they need to take the next step.

So I'm going to wait until at least August before panicking.

I nominated SabresBillsFan as our new GM because he has the experience and the intelligence to run a sports franchise.

And the first thing I would do is hire the girl on that's on your avatar as one of our ice girls.
