One quote on why he recommended Jordan Leopold to come to Buffalo...

"I'm very happy in Buffalo. Never had any problems there. The city of Buffalo might not be the prettiest city in the world but I personally liked it there from the start. My family likes it there as well. The fans go nuts there and are always very nice. So far my time in Buffalo is one good experience. That's exactly what I told my friend Jordan Leopold. He's got a big family. I told him that the Buffalo area is a nice place to raise kids including the very good schools. That convinced him to sign here in Buffalo."

Another short one...

"I would give away all my goals and all my contracts in order to win the Stanley Cup in exchange."

And on the chances of winning the cup next year...

"We always have the chance to win the cup because we have the best goalie in the world. With Ryan Miller as your goaltender, there's always a possibility of winning it.

Buffalonians are aware that it isn't the most beautiful place in the world, my friend.

What gets them irritated, is when they're judged by that exterior without anyone taking notice of what a wonderful community they are.

TV gets that.

He said that yea it's ugly (and it mostly is save some bright spots), but once you look past it it's a fantastic place to live and raise a family.

Well downtown and Niagara Falls may be ugly but a vast majority of the surrounding area is beautiful.

The city itself is in rough shape. I see it every day. Besides the Elmwood Village, Millionaire Row on Delaware, and this damned cute U-shaped street at the end of Chippewa, the city of Buffalo looks BAD. The East Side is horrible, the West Side is horrible, West Seneca and South Buffalo have their spots but are generally bleh, and North Buffalo is bleh.

The rest of Erie County is pretty beautiful though, you're rigth. Cute suburbs and quaint little towns. Has California living really hazied-up your memories that bad, X?

Well when I say "surrounding area" I'm talking suburbs.
Remember I'm from Lewiston...which is still quite lovely. I'm thinking of places like Orchard Park, Amherst, Grand Island.

NHL players don't live *in* Buffalo...they live in the suburbs, which aren't bad at all.

Actually *puts on snooty expert hat*, the Elmwood Village has quite a few Sabres living in it and the shiny new condos plays host to others (my buddy Mike's parents live in Florida atm, but are having a condo unit finished up that is right next to Afinogenov's former unit. That's right, moving back from Florida). The only Sabres who live in the 'burbs are the family men - Rivet, Lalime, Teppo (still lives in Clarence), Pominville, Vanek, etc.

And yea, Lewiston is beautiful. All the suburbs are. If I remember correctly, Pat Kaleta's house in Hamburg is right next to Kawika Mitchell's. I've heard stories about beer pong tournaments hahaha.

I should point out to anyone who doesn't know, but random NHLers have retired in WNY due to low cost of living, great schools, and proximity to Canada. Not even former Sabres, I'm talking guys with no connection to the organization. Marcel Dionne what?

I see, I only passed through Buffalo for a flight, and it was at night so I've never really seen the skyline or anything. I suppose I coule brave the internet for some photos, but I'm actually scared of what I may see. Afterall, you guys are only ranked the 10th most livable city in America. :snooty: ;)

Either he's got a lot of confidence in Darcy Regier that he's trying to make some moves, or he's completly lost confidence in some players and just hopes some are shipped out.

Could be that he's tired of not being on a Cup contender and wants another shot at it. My take, is that he is putting MGMT on the spot with the hopes that they will feel some more pressure to make more moves.
