Well...I dunno. It's hard to quantify what Kaleta does in $$$ terms. Kennedy will probably get $1M-$1.2M. I think the Sabres re-sign both either way. |

Kennedy Im sure will get around 1 million but I dont know how they will analyze Kaleta, weather they will just see him as another agitator and say 700k or take into effect his increasing in productivity and caused penalties and get a bit higher, I think they will both prob. be around 1 million. |

I wouldn't expect anymore than 2 mil for both combined - Kennedy around 1.1 and Kaleta around 900k. |

So, Kennedy is more important to the team than Kaleta? Don't know how I feel about that... |

Kennedy's hearing is on my Birthday, and no matter what we accept both of their contracts, we have plenty of cap space to do so. And they shouldn't be too much anyways. |

I think arbitration is more about the quality of hockey player than it is about how much they mean to a particular team. Kennedy is a better hockey player hence he should be awarded a higher amount. I'm thinking about 1.1 mil for Kennedy and 700-800k for Kaleta. It will be very close to 2 mil for both but should not exceed it. |

I believe so.... because it is team driven... Kaleta has to accept on either a one year or two year deal.... but thats just my understanding... the Sabres can also get a deal done before the hearing... which is the option I am hoping for... Id like a happy Patty K for 2010/11... and if he doesn't get the number he wants will he be happy? He is one guy I would not mind over paying a little bit just to make him happy... i love what he brings to the team... |

dun dun dunnnnn We'll easily keep both of them. I hope Kaleta signs a deal longer than a season or two. |

Arbitration just looks at similar players and salaries of those players to determine what you are basically worth. It's one of the only bargaining acts RFA's have on the team if they file for it instead of the team filing for it. |

Arbitration also takes into account production patterns and injury patterns, stuff like that. |

I'm pretty sure Kaleta wants to play for the Sabres since he is a Buffalo kid. Its not like arbitration is a steel chain around his neck saying STAY AND PLAY YOU CAN'T leave. I dont see other teams wanting to cough up 3-4 mil for him either so its not about the money i think its just easier this way. |

Well the reason Darcy used arbitration was supposedly because he wanted to make offer sheets impossible. |

mechaphil wrote: Well the reason Darcy used arbitration was supposedly because he wanted to make offer sheets impossible. Here is where I see the problem with this organization. Both are local boys and are decent players. Why did we even have to go to arbitration with either one of these guys? I could see if they wanted a big raise and then Darcy and staff say that's too high lets go to arbitration. Neither one is worth over 1.25 million a season at least right now. Educate me Mechaphil or Squanto. |

You're making a big deal out of it. Here's how it breaks down: Kennedy took the team to arbitration because he feels he's not getting offered what he's worth, whereas Kaleta was taken to arbitration by the team because they wanted to protect him from offer sheets while they continue to negotiate up to his hearing. Of course, both could sign before arbitration begins. |

It's always how much more than the contract offered by the team. It's all or nothing and binding, which is dumb because some spend happy panel of arbiters tell you how you should spend your money. |
